3. It's really easy
you go to the local SPCA.. you pick out a cat. You pay the fee. It's not cheap.

You take the cat home. It's yours.

5. I have owned cats for 25 years.
We can discuss, poetically, how they really own us. Or we can discuss like real adults and admit that if somebody came to your house and stole your cat, you'd call the police. That means the cat is your property.

I own three cats, a dog and a tortoise. Yes, I own them. Nobody can take them from me without legal repercussions.

7. You could admit
that if somebody came to your house and stole your cat, you would pursue legal recourse. That means you'd claim property rights over the cat.

9. How would you determine if the cat was 'stolen' or just 'missing'?
Around here, I'd just figure a hawk, owl, or raccoon got it.

People really *pay* for cats?? Out in the sticks where I live, they just wander up. People drop them off all the time... dogs too... I could never imagine having to pay for a dog or cat... seriously.

I toss all my old leftovers and scraps outside for them to eat, and occasionally, when one of the cats decide to adopt me as its human, I let it come in the house. I've got a solid black one right now that's about 4 months old or so... maybe 5 months... it *has* to be touching me all the time when it's in here, no matter where I am. Even if I'm washing dishes, it tries to lay on my foot.

He's a pretty cool cat, but I wouldn't call the cops if it came up missing...

11. I live in town...
yes, we get our pets at the shelter. You have to pay to adopt them.

Are you saying if you saw somebody come into your yard and grab your cat, you'd just shrug and let it go? How sad.

12. I didn't say that at all did I?
Y'all have people stealing pets out of yards? That sucks!

I guess I could call the game warden if I saw a hawk or owl flying off with a cat though... I think the cops in my town would laugh like hell at me if I called and reported a missing cat.... I live 12 miles from town... out in the sticks... on 12.5 acres... "things" get animals around here, not people. I don't have to worry about someone stealing an animal, I have to worry about idiots dropping MORE animals off...

How many cats you want??

15. I did address what you posted.
I asked how you would KNOW if someone "stole" your cat or if was just "missing". Are you not able to decipher what that means?

Now, if you're saying you'd just sit there and *watch* while someone came in your house or in your yard and stole your cat and you did nothing to stop them and waited until they were gone to call the cops, well I'd say that you're just a wimp then. Otherwise, how would you KNOW that someone "stole" it or if it was just "missing"?

Did that address it clear enough?

16. I wasn't trying to lay out a "cold case" scenario...
I said "if somebody stole your cat". That implies somebody actually stole your cat, and you were aware of it.

But it's a silly side-argument.

My point is simply that I own my cats, and the law agrees.

17. Ok, that's cool...
I guess I'm too spoiled from living out in the country. I *wouldn't* know if someone stole one of my cats or if a hawk or owl got it unless I actually witnessed them taking it. Around here, dogs & cats come and go.. I don't get attached to them. That's all I'm saying... Now if my BOAT came up missing, that would be a different story...

10. No one is any less the real adult
for noting that cats don't act as if they were in a subordinate relationship to humans. They manage to arrange the household to their own liking.

19. I don't want to have too many things
Because that usually means I've racked up some debt. I am currently busy paying off things that I bought 3 years ago via credit card. Never again!
