The Not So Super Bowl
Edited on Sun Feb-01-04 06:08 PM by Sandpiper
Before the flames start coming, just think about it for a second.

The Super Bowl is Event with a capital E. However, if you take away all the window dressing from the Super Bowl (the week of media hype, the pregame hoopla, the commercials, the halftime show), what you're left with is a game that's usually not very super.

Of the 37 Super Bowls played up to now, the winning team has posted a double digit victory 26 times. Even in the supposed age of "parity," the average margin of victory for the last 10 Super Bowls is 15 points.

Of all the major American sports, football wins hands down in terms of generating excitement and making a spectacle of its championship. In terms of quality of play, well, that's another story.

7. Absofrigginlutely the Grey Cup
Lucky for living close to the border I have the best of both worlds...will look at the CFL if it's on. But having attended the Grey Cup, I daresay I haven't seen a SB that had the same depth of excitement.

4. Lest anyone accuse me of being a football hater
I like American style professional football just fine. I just think that more often than not, the Super Bowl is more hype than substance.

11. Yeah, it's overhyped
Yeah, it isn't usually very exciting
And it doesn't affect my life in even the slightest way

Yet for some reason, I'm listening to it on the radio:shrug:
