Have you ever found yourself stuck
continually giving a co-worker rides home because you are too
much of a wimp to just say "no, I just want to go home.
It's 3 freakin o'clock in the morning and I'm not your damn
mother, find your own way home."

I'm just tired and cranky, it's not that big a deal. I'd
better hurry up and clean up my desk though, I'll have someone
waiting for me in a couple of minutes. :banghead:

1. that would be tough, considering I hardly ever have a car
Can I get a ride with you? I usually end up walking or taking my bike.

What I wonder, is 'What sort of font did you use that kept the smilies from working?'

Also, I am wondering: do you love "Cali" the DUer, or "Cali" the disgusting cesspool of a state out west? :hide:

2. I try to be patient
because there have been a lot of times I didn't have a car either but I'm really getting fed up.

The Cali that I love is my cat

and I have no idea what's up with my computer because I just tried to post a picture of my handsome boy Cali with this post but when I hit preview all I could see was a box with a red x in it.

Edited on Wed Oct-10-07 04:54 PM by Sequoia
I watched that new show on ABC last night "Carpoolers" (didn't know about it). I laughed a lot, especially where they guy said he gets hit by cars all the time and a big white truck hits him and he does a backward sumersault into the wall and gets right up, "See, I told you I get hit by cars all the time."

7. He either gets a ride with someone else or
takes a cab. Sometimes I get sucked into giving him a ride to work also but I at least had enough spine to not commit to giving him rides everyday.

I know I'm being a big whiney baby about it but it's not even having to go out of my way, it's having to schedule around someone else. It's annoying to have someone asking all the time, do you know yet when you'll be leaving? I always feel like saying "yeah, when my work is done, leave me alone" but at least so far I've resisted the urge.

Are you in your new department yet Malta Blue?

8. Being known as a mean, bitchy person
has its benefits. There was one person who asked me several times, and then I just said that I could not do it anymore because I was in the same position as you - getting the "what time" email.

You can always claim urgent email - although on your shift I don't know if your contacts send urgents at that time...

I love my new position!!! It is so low-stress and even with the shakeup in my old dept, I have no interest in throwing myself under that bus by applying to replace the supervisor....

...a long time ago, I had a smarmy boss at that company that our current one bought....he kept asking me if I was "done yet" and would touch my shoulders (ick ick ick). One day I put a post-it note on my back that said "leave me alone, I am not done yet"...perhaps you can try something like that. It was quite effective.

Good luck - and I can always yell at him if you want  apparently people think I am mean....

9. I don't know why I've given people the impression I'm nice
if I knew what it was I'd stop it immediately.

People think you're mean and you're nice, people think I'm nice and I'm really mean. This really isn't working for me. Where the hell did I leave that spine, I think I need it again. :-)

I love the fact that people think I am a ruthless wench at work - it keeps the flies away

You need to hone those skills my friend.

Hey - did you hear I got a new dog?

I had spoken with Rhiannnon12866 about helping me find a rescue but all the local ones were larger than what I was looking for. This little devil was delivered from New Paltz.

I can see why you fell in love.

I don't have a dog because I'm away from home too much so I just spoil my sister's Dalmatian to death.

Maybe I can build a reputation as the crazy cat lady. I think that's why people used to leave me alone, they thought I was crazy not mean. I can definitely work with crazy.

37. Ask him to tank up your vehicle every few rides
After all, he's not paying a car payment, buying tires, paying for repairs, etc.

He'll either pay and you won't feel so much resentment, or he'll find another ride.

18. why yes I have and she used to want to stop at the grocery store
on the way home. Her home wasn't far but because it made me go through the town instead of the outskirts it cost me an extra 1/2 hour of travel time and then added time if we stopped at the grocery store so she could pick up something for dinner.

The topper was when I stayed there waiting for her one day..15 minutes or so after everyone else from day shift was gone and the big boss comes up and asks me what the hell I'm still doing there. I tell him and he tells me that she was getting a ride from someone else that day. :grr: She claimed she forgot.

Mine lasted nearly the entire 18 months at that job. Her drivers license was suspended and I quit shortly after she got her license back. The only time I was ever late for any job ever was when I had to go pick her up to take her to work. Did I mention she was my supervisor?

Sorry LMC, didn't mean to make it about my former situation. I know that stuck feeling. It's like you try to be nice and they take advantage.

Does your parasite ever offer gas money? Mine didn't.

20. He did offer once
to give me 10 bucks a week if I gave him rides to and from work and I told him I couldn't commit to that since I have a crazy schedule and couldn't guarantee I could get him to work on time every day. So now he just bums rides home and no gas money in sight.

24. I've been thinking of that too
but now I'm becoming obsessed over either trying to hurry with my work to try to leave before him or doing more work so I'm leaving later (he's a very patient person though, last night he waited until almost 3:30am) or making up excuses about not going home but where would I be going at 3 in the morning. I can only grocery shop so many times a week.

27. i'd just tell the guy outright he isn't getting another ride unless he wants to pay for your gas
$10 a week for chaffeur service don't cut it, $10 a day is more like it, a cab would cost him much more

you can't be taken advantage of without your consent

report it to your supervisor if he keeps hitting up on you for free rides, this is not part of your job

28. Call the local cab companies
and find the fare for what a taxi ride home would cost your
co-worker. Charge them that +10%. If they gripe, tell them
to call a cab.

30. With my luck
he'd take me up on it. See it's not really the money or even driving out of my way. It's just that I'm not a highly scheduled person and I don't like having to arrange things around someone else. I want to be able to leave on the spur of the moment or stop at the grocery store on the way home or just drive around until the song I'm listening to on the radio ends without explaining myself to anybody.

32. Staying with someone else?
To help with someone's child/elder care?
Housesitting?
meeting a secret paramour?

Or just a blanket
"I'm not going to be available to drive you, sorry, 'personal matter'". and leave it at that.

31. start hitting them up for a few bucks every time. Hell, intentionally run out of gas
with them in the car. Jeez what a freeloader. Explain you are fine with helping out but this is taking time and wear and tear on your vehicle, plus fuel. Stop at fast food places and ask them to buy you a snack.

that's all I got, sorry. (I know how it goes, I'm a sucker too)

Next time you give him a ride light up a smoke or eat a lot of beans first. He'll find some other way to get to/from work if you do that!
