*My family is making me crazy!*
I need to move out of the 2-flat I share with my parents (they live on the first floor, I live on the second). I'm willing to go as far as moving out of state and starting a whole new life all by myself, even if I get cut off of my parents' financial help, and end up living paycheck to paycheck.

Where do I start? PLEASE HELP!

1. Not to get all Zen on you or anything, but you start by starting.
Begine with that thought and all will fall into line.

2. Begin saving money as much as you can.
Be on the lookout for places that are available and check out the average price ranges. Don't buy or rent before you have done a thorough job of checking rent prices/rules/proximity to job.

When you reach a point where you can afford a security deposit, rent, your first month's groceries, power/water and other utilities, plus have a way to travel and gas money, then you can start looking seriously.

Make sure you can afford the security deposits and rent and everything, then get ready to boogy. You'll have to pay for the rent and let the place sit empty until all the utilities are hooked up and you have appliances like a fridge and a microwave/oven to stock with groceries. You can begin moving in before it's all hooked up and ready to go, but you'll end up wasting money eating out when you need to be saving money by learning to like bologna/rice/beans/potatoes. Plan to live the first year in a state of total confusion. Plan to make mistakes, because everyone does. Plan on being self reliant. You will have to do that to survive.

Enlist your parents' help if you can. If not, get ready to bust your ass to survive. It can and has been done before, so you can do it.

Or...
You could just go out and get away from the parents every now and again and keep living in your nice little cozy flat where you live now.

3. I can't speak for others, but.....
I personally think living paycheck to paycheck is far better than living with and relying on the parents. I recommend not moving out of state though because your relationship with your parents might evolve into something completely different and wonderful once you're financially independent but close enough to keep in touch. Food for thought....

4. first off - how old are you?
What are your skills? What type of job - and pay - can you expect?

Do you have any concept of what it costs to "live on your own?"

(I'm not trying to dissuade you, just giving you some reality check information.)

Do you have to "go so far as moving out of state"? If so, WHY? Why can't you just "move out" to your own apartment or room?

12. Ask your parents what you typed here.
They are old and have probably done what you want to learn how to do. Tap their brains for info, they might help you get where you want to be. Do you have a job? If you don't have one you will need one.
