Has anyone here ever used Direct Buy....you know, like the tv commercial?
:freak: I'm having a real problem with them, and have been for months. My husband & I are remodelling his deceased mother's house to live in, and I was interested in getting some of those "great deals" they advertise on tv. So, when I called them up to get my "free visitor's pass", they said that I had to come with my husband.

Well, my husband works all the time, and has weird hours. Besides, I'm the one who is doing all the price comparisons on materials, etc. So, I told Direct Buy that he couldn't come with me. They said he had to, and that I couldn't go on the "tour" alone. So, at the end of last month, hubby was on vacation, so we were going to make the 1-1/2 hour drive to the Direct Buy showroom. I called 'em again, and asked for a "visitor's pass". The pass arrived 2 days after the date on the pass, and by then, hubby was no longer on vacation.

So, they just called me again. I, again, explained that I could now only come by myself, and again, they said no deal.

Is that even legal???? Since they're a "private membership" company, they say they get to set whatever rules they want to.

I'd LOVE to save a few thousand bucks on cabinets, carpets, flooring, etc., like their commercials advertise, if I could find what I wanted. (Remodelling is REALLY expensive these days. ) But the damned place won't let me come alone.

Does anyone here have any experience with these folks? Is it worth it for hubby to take extra vacation (which he really needs to save so we can work on the house) so we can go to the damned showroom together?

I'd SURE appreciate some help here, if anyone knows about it.

1. Call them and ask for a pass again, tell them you're single?

I would contact management about this situation, what if your husband was disabled? Would you be barred from membership if he couldn't go to the freaking store?

2. I already filled out the whole thing on line...
So I'm afraid they've got my phone & address and the whole nine-yards. Maybe I could re-sign up using my cell phone, and my mother-in-law's address where we're moving to. And my maiden name!?? That might work.

:kick:

5. Thank you SO MUCH for linking that site, Kitchen Witch.
Whew! It's a good thing that we didn't get our visitor's pass in time while hubby was on vacation. We would have been FURIOUS if we had driven an hour & 1/2 to go through that mess.

I greatly appreciate it!

4. Strange. In some states, it's illegal to discriminate based on marital status.
I'm not sure if that's the case here, but it seems shady.
