Although I'm a Reds fan, I toast to their victory and congrats to Sweet Lou Pinella on pulling it off.

1. Dammit. Brewers should have been in it.
But NO, Ned Yost had to go and bean Pujols instead of just trying to win the game.

Grumble.

13. Yep, they had a huge lead the first half the season
but choked it away.

21. I've been to their ball park.
The Brewers have a great team, and they will be contenders for many years. They had a good season. Be proud. And Fielder? I want to be there some time when he hits one of his homers.

I have been to St. Louis, too. They have great fans and a great tradition.

My husband is a White Sox fan. We have been to many of their games. I cheered them without reservation when they won the World Series.

But I agree on the Pujols thing. There is no excuse. I have a lot of respect for him as a player.

I think it is great that the last few weeks of the National League season went right down to the wire. It has been exciting to see so many teams in contention.

6. Umm, no. The Cubs won the NL Central Division. Big difference
between winning a division and winning a pennant to advance to the World Series.

And it wasn't "Sweet Lou Pinella" that exactly pulled it off.

The team's massive spending spree for free agent players like Alfonso Soriano had more to do with it I'm afraid.

"This team committed more dollars in one offseason ($317.55 million) than any franchise in the history of baseball -- or the history of dollars, for that matter."

7. And still
had a won-lost record that wouldn't have even gotten them second place in ANY other division-either league, and that despite playing so many more games against their fellow mediocrities in the NL Central. Raining on my own parade---I'm a life-long Cub fan, but a realist , and this is basically a .500 team . It will be interesting to see how the "Cub Factor" plays out, with the Cubs actually having an ex-Cub on the roster (Trachsel) this year. Uncharted territory for using the Cub factor to determine post season winners (for instance: the winners of 6 of the 7 post season series' lat year had fewer ex-Cubs than their opponent).

9. All that dough and still only 8th overall in baseball payroll.
Edited on Sat Sep-29-07 10:44 AM by HuskerDU
And we are likely to finish with the 8th best record among playoff teams. Why is that a problem for you? Why can't you just let us be happy? Will you rain on other teams parades too for having a higher payroll than the Cubs? Does bringing others down lift you up? Very sad.

To the Cub fan below- sure we are a .500 team, but so was St Louie last year but their WS trophy only says 'Champs'.

20. Thank you.
I can't recall all the times I have come in here and congratulated other fans for their teams' great seasons. I have done it at times that I didn't even care about the sport.

I come to the lounge to get away from the nasty shit in some of the other forums, and see sniping about the Cubs. Let us celebrate, for crying out loud.

Maybe some of this is spillover from the primary wars in the other forums. People are so used to being negative that they just can't quit.

22. Now HuskerDU, why would you send me a nasty PM and not
expect me to post it for all to see?

You need to quit being so sensitive.'

You were clearly the neighborhood kid who used to cry and then take his ball home.

If you have anything to say to me, you can say it on the board for all to see.

Only real assholes go to celebration thread and point out reasons why happy people shouldn't be happy. Try lifting yourself up instead of bringing others down for a change!

23. What parade? The Cubs aren't even the best team in the NL,
let alone better than the Angels, Red Sox, Yankees or Indians.

19. I love the Cubbies and Lou!
My Dodgers choked so badly this year, after leading the division all the way through July.

But the Cubs have always had a place in my baseball heart, and I fondly recall the winning baseball Lou brought to Seattle not so long ago. So I hope they can do it.
