George Lazenby got an unfair break
Edited on Thu Sep-27-07 04:15 PM by MrScorpio
OHMSS is my favorite, right after DAF

I would have cried too if the best Bond girl EVAH died on me too

1. I agree! He could have been a great Bond.
I've read where he was afraid that Bond would become something of a joke. And he was right when Roger Moore took over and camped it up as 007.

To come in and replace Connery and then have the film end depressingly with Rigg's death was a no win scenario for him.

2. He had the swagger and was excellent in the fight scenes
I wonder if he knew he could have taken the character to new levels

3. Agree, but with one small caveat...
He was fucking awful in that movie.

I'll say it and I'll say it out loud right now. Roger Moore was the best James Bond. Period, the end.

6. I like Roger Moore.
Yes, he camped James Bond up to hell. I grew up with it, so my mind thinks that is how James Bond is supposed to be. None of the films were like the books, so you can't claim any of the various Bonds are truer to Fleming's works than any other. So it just comes down to what you like. I liked Roger Moore.

7. I don't particularly like Bond in the books. the problem with Connery & Remington Steele is...
...they really seem to enjoy shooting women right after they sleep with them. Moore was a lightweight, but he didn't play Bond as "disturbed."

10. Flame baiting me, eh?
Moore was the worst, except for The Spy Who Loved Me.

11. Wait...how could you enjoy both OHMSS and DAF?
DAF is the antithesis of everything that made OHMSS so absorbing--I think I lost brain cells the last time I watched it. It's the Return of the Jedi to OHMSS's The Empire Strikes Back.

16. Unforgivable when on the heels of OHMSS
OHMSS was nothing short of a masterpiece, and its conclusion promised to take Bond into a far darker world. Yet the follow-up proved to be a confection more distasteful than any of Moore or Brosnan's flicks (no easy feat, that).

Dalton's efforts notwithstanding, the series didn't recover until Casino Royale.

15. He had potential, and a great director in that movie (Peter Hunt?)
Michael Craig is coming close to topping Timothy Dalton...

Connery is #3, mostly for his first three movies only.
Lazenby is #5.
Moore is #4, solely because of "For Your Eyes Only" and "The Spy Who Loved Me". which show how potent Bond under his control could be. I didn't care much for the silliness after a certain point.

Remington Steele is last on the list...
