Raw songs you like?
I've always thought Miles Davis's "Blue in Green" to be a depressing and aching song--one of those sorts of depression that makes you feel strangely zoned out and at peace with the world, a comforting sorrow and muted "what the fuck?"-ness that nonetheless lets you know that it's all good. It is undoubtedly, however, a raw song, and a beautifully raw song at that.

Here's a video for it--dunno what the pics are for and whatever, but all you need is the audio, and I think only a few seconds at the end are missing. The only other studio version uploaded to YouTube is missing the last 30 seconds. :scared:

1. You already picked Miles, so here's my pick:
Velvet Underground - "Sister Ray"

A different kind of "raw," though. :hi:

2. As much as I love Portishead, they leave me very depressed.
Miles Davis knocks my socks off. Tract 2 of "Jack Johnson" is a mind altering experience.

Joe Sample and Randy Crawford.

4. Raw, eh? I love intense and depressing music. Right now my favorite is "I Break Horses' by Smog.
This is a more low key version of the song, but it's still pretty intense.

As for REALLY raw, you need to check out Buddy Wakefield's 'Convenience Stores,' a spoken word track that will rock you to your foundation, if you have any emotion.
Unfortunately, You Tube doesn't have a good version of it. Look on Buddy's myspace page here:

you can listen to the track or even add it to your myspace page if you are so inclined.

I'll throw a song out there anyway though: "Shut The Door" by Fugazi.

7. RAW is a format used by high-end digital cameras.
So yeah, I don't know what she is typing about.

8. RAW?
When I hear the word, "raw" associated with music, I think punk demos and "raw" versions of songs.

In that case, I would have to say the UK version of "Sunset Strip(the sore cootchie version)" by Courtney Love is my favorite "raw" version of any song ever.

I can't answer it for any other kind. Soz.

9. Sorry, all.
Not being a punk-/metal-/hard-rocker, I don't think of that when I think "raw"--I just think of emotionally rough, whether because it's depressing or angry or what. :D

11. "All is Forgiven" - Jellyfish
heal me darling
pleaded the playboy bedroom eyes
grace your sunshine
till everything's ok, all right, fine

what's hers is his
cause everything is forgiven...forgiven
though he soured the milk of human
kindness all is forgiven...all is forgiven

truth and avarice
encircle his words like a barber pole
twisted and useless,
'til they disappear in her camisole
(goodnight alibi)

throw away your daggers and pills
cause everything's still forgiven...forgiven
though he bit off the nipple of human kindness,
all is forgiven

hypocrite, four flusher, snake in the grass
just a swindler and wolf in sheep's clothing,
liar

yes he tries to hide the cross he bears
but splinters, like the truth, have always risen
all is forgiven

though he shelters himself
in the shade of the wings of a stool pigeon
all is forgiven
