I have a very serious question: what is the point of
MySpace?

So you make your shitty little page and your friends make THEIR shitty little pages and you link your pages together and then what?

Like, I don't understand why people spend time on that site.

1. It was meant to allow musicians to network with their fans inexpensively.
For that kind of thing, I think it does well. Social networking? Can't help ya. Not a member.

5. Musicians, and authors, too.
I use mine strictly to keep tabs on the bands and authors I like, especially to make sure I don't miss any shows or book signings.

7. It is another way to communicate
I talk to Some of my Du friends there.
Yes it is sort of narcissistic in nature.
But it can also be pretty fun.

Friends who don't happen to be psychos, friends you'd lost touch with and are very pleased to have reconnected with.

13. I can never understand MySpace
I started with LiveJournal then Xanga and gradually Facebook... I very briefly touched upon MySpace and hated it..

I think even for a 26 year old woman I'm an old fuddy duddy... my landlord just put in a central heating system in with fancy push button settings and I told my partner, "What's wrong with the old turning the dial-ism?"

15. It is a horribly designed website
It never works half the time and always looks terrible. For all the money Murdoch paid for it, you'd think he could get someone to design a better interface.

19. Some of my best friends have myspace pages
and they're so reductionist...

Like your whole personality, interests, ideas can be remotely covered in a few short text boxes.

There just seems to be no depth there at all.

22. i dunno i have a shitty little page
and most all of the friends and their shitty little pages are DU'ers that I've linked to

I don't spend much time but I sometimes like to see what my DU friends are up to and myspace gives them a venue for posting blogs pics and to make comments on their sites.

other than that

no fucking point whatsoever probably
