First, I don't think one should have a plural. Second, it is often used to describe testes and equate masculinity with courage, as in "She's got a pair of big ones."

Edited on Sun Sep-16-07 11:10 PM by LostInAnomie
There is no more overused word in the teaching profession. I discovered, while finishing my Masters, that if you would remove the word "effective" from professional educational journals all that would be left is a three page pamphlet.

Really, expand that to all vapid "professional" jargon. "Thinking outside the box", "synergy", "result oriented", etc., it's all shit used to cover the emptiness of ideas.

55. Underpants
All apologies to our beloved DUer with that name, but that word has no place in everyday American English. We've got briefs, boxers, panties, shorts, and just plain "skivvies," but I think we should leave it at that rather than have Hollywood mindmakers shove this term down our throats.

"corporate culture"

"synergy"

"paradigm shift"

"think outside the box"

"actionable"

"global network"

And that doesn't even touch on all the disgusting corporate euphemisms for terrible things:

"wage re-evaluation policy" aka slashing employee's paychecks in half to make the company more money

"downsizing" aka firing half your staff
