How long could you last on the food you have in your house?
If you had no money or couldn't get to the store, how many days (months) could you live off the food you have in your pantry and freezer?

What would be the last thing you consumed?

2. We have a large freezer full of food
I guestimate we could last about 2 months.

3. Hmm
I'd say two weeks comfortably, probably could stretch that to 4 weeks though if I was in a true crisis.

4. A couple of months
It's summer and I have a garden loaded with veggies, plus the freezer and pantry food. Meals would get pretty plain in month 2 when I had no cooking fats left.

5. About two weeks, as long as the water was running
Then I'd run out of coffee. :scared:

7. A month and MREs.
Katrina scared the hell out of me and I put in a big emergency supply of stuff including surgical tools and radios you can crank. Two of them.

We seem to have raided the liquor, cigarettes and cash though. :P

12. Well, I certainly hope they would be last

I'm a vegetarian, so I would have to be pretty desperate to eat meat in general and at death's door to even think about eating a pet.

On edit: You wouldn't eat the neighbors, would you?

Edited on Wed Aug-29-07 11:27 PM by Kali
with my kids? couple days  kidding (sort of) we could go 3 weeks to a month, depending on how the garden holds out. Just restocked rice and beans, have a pretty good stash of meat, - we would be short on fruit and spuds, but could get by - low on coffee though, that would be a DRAG for sure.

edit to add: last consumed would be the cow's tongue from an animal we butchered way too long ago and/or the strange unrefrigerated cheese whiz type "product" in a "crock" (plastic I think) that someone left here from some distant party :scared: :puke:

17. I'd do okay, but not great.
Mostly because my roommate went to one of those warehouse stores and bought a crapload of stuff... so there isn't ROOM in the freezer for me to buy much of anything. :\

20. Probably several months.
My inability to get to the store would change what I did with the food..stretching it to make more meals.

Most likely I'd use up freezer contents first, boxed and canned goods last.

21. A looong time
We're always hurricane-ready, so we're pretty stocked, plus we have two fridges.

We could go about three weeks on tuna and beans alone. We'd run out of baby formula in about a month, though.

Last thing to go for me would be the stockpile of Marmite, but my husband and son would probably finish that off first. :puke:

22. I'm guessing around four weeks
Edited on Thu Aug-30-07 08:07 AM by TommyO
It would mean rationing things a bit, and I guarantee that I would lose weight. Thinking of my "stockpile", I need to get more frozen and canned veggies into the mix.

Edited to add: powdered milk, plastic sheets and duct tape need to be added as well.

23. maybe a month, possilby 6 weeks and I would gain 10 pounds
Edited on Thu Aug-30-07 08:31 AM by yellowdogintexas
because I would be eating stuff I normally don't eat because it is starchy, like pasta, rice, dried beans and canned soup etc. Since I would be out of fresh fruit and veg pretty quickly, I would say that weight gain would be looming on the horizon.

on edit: 18 Weight Watchers points a day would be hard to maintain on what I have in my house, once I ate all the frozen chicken breasts and the fresh food that is here.

30. Maybe 3 weeks
I haven't been able to stock up as well, since hubby has been in charge of the groceries for a while due to my illness.

I guess I can get the most bang for my buck with rice, beans, and pasta. Even ramen, since it lasts forever and someone will eat it eventually. We splurge on the expensive 99 cent and Thai ramen...it's not terrible. I cant stand old school ramen...too much in college...especially Hot and Sour cups...

Anyway, this assumes electric and water supply. With neither of those, maybe a week, and we'd be trading off the booze.

I would be more concerned about running out of my medication and vitamins first. We plan to loot a pharmacy and health food store, lol.

If so, i can probably survive for a while on peanut butter & ritz crackers and dry cheerios after the regular food & drink gives out.

I have a few things in case of emergency (such as when I'm really sick), and have some veggies in the freezer, but the rest are all fresh.
