So much blood and gore! If only I had a high-def big screen. After I downloaded it I wished I had payed to go see it in the theater. And no, they only say that once.

What a crock of shit. Freedom was unknown in ancient Sparta. The place was a giant armed camp. Weak children were killed. Boys who survived the first few years were taken from their families and raised communally to become soldiers. There were no Spartan philosophers, authors, artists, musicians, or architects. Fighting was all they ever did.

but it doesn't claim to be historically accurate. :) They're just trying to tell a good story, and (very) loosely using a bit of history to do so.

All of what you mentioned was covered quite extensively in the first 1/3 of the movie. It was a major plot point, in fact, although it was definitely glorified. On the whole, though, it was more pro-Ancient-Greek-civilization than pro-Sparta; even the citizen-slaves were held up as better than the dastardly Persains.

I'd like to say "it was just a movie," but I know how you feel. I get just as upset at the recent "Alamo" movie...
