What stereotypes do YOU not fit into?
We all know that there are LOTS of stereotypes out there that are downright false, if not for most of the stereotyped group, then at least for some.

I am young, but I am NOT apathetic - far from it. I'm also a male, but - and I'm not afraid to admit this - I'm not all that strong. I'm also a Christian who doesn't believe abortion and gayu marriage are the only two issues facing our society. And that's just for starters.

Surely you too are part of a group or some groups to which stereotyopes are applied. Do you care to discuss any of them?

2. A few:
I'm young, but not apathetic, like you, nor do I generally act like many people my age.

I'm a guy, but I hate sports and generally don't act like a jackass in public.

I'm of Indian descent, but lack goals, ambition or success. :P

5. This is a most excellent question!
Let's see:

I worked as a construction tradesman for 30+ years and, while no Einstein, I am educated (BA with an MA on the way) and capable of holding a reasonably intellectual conversation.

I am a Christian; however, I also believe in the Enlightenment principles upon which our Constitution was based. For this reason I support the ACLU, Americans United for Separation of Church and State, and the North American Religious Liberty Association. I have my faith/belief, I am willing to discuss it, I am NOT willing to watch it forced upon anyone else. Period.

I am an "old guy" (52) and I very much enjoy young people...I like their energy and their ideas. I was one once myself, or so I am told. They do, however, need to stay off my lawn... :D

I am a Democrat and a Liberal, but I don't march in lockstep with any party.

I am a veteran (1972-1975) and I support our need for a strong military and the men and women who serve; however, I find militaristic jingoism, xenophobia and flag waving abhorrent, especially when that flag is wrapped tightly around a Church/State combo that defines patriotism by adherence to it's beliefs and actions.

I would be lost without spellcheck...

:D :hi:

I know many people think that the stereotype about women of a certain age who remain unmarried and without children being perceived as lesbian is long dead. But you'd be surprised how many folks have automatically assumed this about me (yes, even the "progressive" folks) in recent years.

20. I'm a girl and I like video games and heavy metal.
I need to lose a few pounds, but I can exercise my (much skinnier) husband under the table. I also eat the recommended 5 servings of fruit and veggies every day.

I'm a Christian, but I believe in evolution and support the right of gays to marry.

I'm a progressive, but I don't believe in Communism, I eat red meat, and I own a gun. Further, sometimes I think whether war IS in fact the answer depends on the question being asked.

I'm married and in my early thirties, but I have experienced no ticking of any biological clock.

I have little interest in shoe or any other kind of clothes shopping. My closet is the same size as my husband's, and his is more full. He also owns and uses more hair products than I do.

I'm working on a Ph.D. However, I do in fact know something about the "real world", having worked at a variety of crappy jobs while living on my own for over 10 years of my adult life.

You know the drill: that baby boomers are wealthy, retiring in droves, completely given over to a sense of entitlement. :eyes: I live rather simply -- no car, no house -- and will likely work for two more decades, assuming my health holds out.

I also went to my share of rock concerts but never used any illegal drugs.

If people don't know my maiden name, they assume I'm Irish (green eyes, pale skin, a few freckles in summer, brown hair I now dye reddish). I don't hide the fact that I'm Italian, but I am grateful I can't be pigeonholed into the stereotypes.

I'm Irish, but I rarely partake of the "craychur".

I'm a "DLC Democrat", but I pick fights with corporate lobbyists, don't have a lot of personal money, and always vote for the Democratic candidate for President. Actually, that describes most every DLC Democrat I know...

I grew up in New Hampshire and have never milked a cow, which seems to astonish many denizens of the fine state to our south.

I lived in Arkansas for four years and still have most of my teeth.

I lived in New Orleans for three years and was never the subject of a federal corruption probe.

If they're more productive at making lower-quality cars, that's not better.

45. I'm a 6'1" black woman but...
1) I've never played basketball or volleyball. I've also never even considered modeling (I've never had the body for it even if I wanted to) and most of the men I've dated in the past have been shorter than me.

2) I'd say about 99.976% of the black stereotypes (give or take) do not apply to me. I can't stand rap music anymore (I only listen to talk radio these days anyway), come from a very Huxtablesque family and have always had more white friends than black friends. That's not to say that I don't love my peeps but I definitely don't fit the "mold" that we tend to get lumped into, self-imposed or otherwise.

3) As for being a woman, I HATE shopping (especially shoe shopping), I don't like chocolate, I don't like to wear makeup unless I have to, can't stand to do my hair and I do not like to watch chick flicks. I also can't cook unless I have a specific recipe to follow, I kill plants like nobody's business and I'm always the one in my house getting nagged to pick up behind myself. I always characterize myself as a gay man trapped inside a woman's body, and not the effeminate type of gay man either.
