"He who says nothing of note, never misspeaks."
Someone here has this as their sigline...

I just saw it yesterday!

But I failed to make a note of it...

I want to write this one in my little blank book, because this quote speaks to me...

I'd like to be able to say who the author is...

Anybody know who said this?

Or...whose sigline it is?

Thanks...

1. Similar to......
(paraphrasing) "Better to remain silent and thought a fool, than
to speak and remove all doubt." Mark Twain-I think.

8. Similar in spirit to one that more suits my personality:
"Any jackass can go through life without offending people."

11. Not sure of the origin, but it means to me:
Those who say only what people want to hear, never says anything of worth.

Which is what I find when I look up politician in the dictionary :)

14. My dear Straight Story...
For me, the meaning comes across as: If you never say anything important...

Or brave, or bold...

Then you cannot speak anything worthwhile...

But I agree that this is how politicians often sound...

15. My dear CaliforniaPeggy!
It reminds me of another quote (and I may be paraphrasing): "Nothing I ever said ever got me in any trouble." I think I've heard it attributed to Coolidge.

19. well, Peggy, as I have a passion for quotes
I love how poignant and meaningful they are- I went and tried to find out on a couple of my favorite quote sites- and I have come to the conclusion that the person the coined this was

TA DUM- Drumroll, please

that unnamed DUer- and quite possibly California Peggy herself! It is a great quote and I certainly enjoyed others suggestions of quotes that come close.

“Men use thought only as authority for their injustice, and employ speech only to conceal their thoughts”
Voltaire quotes (French Philosopher and Writer. One of the greatest of all French authors, 1694-1778)

If you want to look up a good quote, check out this website- it is one of my favorites. You can even start your own little 'book' with your favorites that you've found.

Well, now, I didn't write that one!

But I thank you for the website! I have bookmarked it and will return to it often...

I suspect the person who wrote the quote I'm looking for was the DU'er on whose post I saw it...

Thanks for contributing!
