Need Help Buying a Decent Digital Camera
Edited on Thu Jul-26-07 11:05 AM by romantico
I am going to be picking up a Macbook laptop next weekend and I am really excited. My first Mac. Before I buy my laptop I want to get a nice digital camera. I love taking pictures so am looking for something rather simple and user friendly.I want to make a page on Flickr and start posting pics. Can anyone reccomend a decent camera? Most the camera's on flickr are Cannons and have heard you can not go wrong with a Cannon.Any thoughts?

2. I have the Powershot SD800 IS.
My kids gave it to me for Mother's Day, and I'm loving it. Very user-friendly.

I went with a Canon Powershot S40 but that was four years ago. A buddy of mine loves his Kodak (the one with the German made lens).

4. There were two digital camera gifts that we did last Christmas
both cameras were Canon, the first being an SD700 IS, the other an SD800 IS.

They are very similar cameras, the SD700 being a 6 megapixel camera, the SD800 is 7 megapixels, close enough to not be a major factor. Both cameras have a large LCD on the back for menus, framing your shot, as well as for playback, though they both offer an optical viewfinder which I consider a critical component on any camera. Both cameras feature image stabilized lenses which help compensate for shaky hands and other camera movement when you're taking pictures. Both cameras can hook directly to a number of Canon printers, we used this feature to capture my aunt's 80th birthday party and make a photo album for her before we left the assisted living facility that she calls home.

The SD700 has a 35-140mm equivalent lens, while the SD800 goes a little bit wider, from 28-105mm equivalent. If you're going to be doing a lot of indoor shooting and want to get more of the room in, go for the wider angle lens.

I was able to play with both of them once the boxes were opened and they are very nice cameras that I would consider to go along side my "big boy" digital SLR camera.
