Indian granny thrown on garbage dump
NEW DELHI (Reuters) - An Indian couple found an unwell 75-year-old woman lying on a garbage dump, apparently thrown out of her home by her daughter and grandsons who did not want to take care of her, the Hindustan Times reported.

"She never complained about her family's behaviour, only rued the fact that she couldn't move without help," Mohanasundari, one of the rescuers, said.

The "semi-paralysed" Palaniappan told her rescuers her youngest daughter had quarrelled with other family members over who should take care of her. The daughter then got her sons to take their grandmother to the dump in the southern state of Tamil Nadu.

7. That happens to many widows in India..not the garbage dump but
being forced into homelessness and left to fend for themselves. I posted an article about it several weeks ago in GD. There are people now providing shelters for these women so they're not forced to live on the streets with nothing to eat.

I do hope their legal system goes through with the charges against her family.

8. Maybe if they ever have the Olympics there
I noticed the Chinese government has been recently trying to spiff up their human and civil rights now that the whole world will be watching them.

10. Same in China but with both countries having such high growth...

...right now China is diverting some of the extra revenues into social and educational programs and hopefully the same will happen in India soon too as the two nations compete against one another in exports and having very highly educated individuals. I once saw an Indian classroom, outdoors at that where seven and eight year olds were already reading and writing in both Hindi and English.
