5. *chuckle*
I was at my uncle's memorial service yesterday. I commented to one of my relatives, "Ya know, there is never enough food at these things!"

I totally pigged out.

7. I KNEW IT!
And, as I have learned, there are variations of the tater tot hot dish. The one I knew best involved ground beef, Campbell's cheese soup, onion dip mix, and tater tots. (I spent some years with a Minnesotan.) But there are variations of the tater tot hot dish recipe, as told to me by a South Dakotan. Some are made with ham, some are made with variations of soup mixes, but all are well apportioned and graced on top with tater tots!

9. Minnesota Lutheran soul food.
Hamburger, onion, mushroom soup, green beans, and tater tots.

A vegetarian friend made it with vegan sausages and a bunch of cheese. Not bad.

6. It is one of any number of varieties of what many folks call "casseroles"
or "covered dishes".

Many varieties rely on using cream of mushroom soup as the sauce/binder.

They are all very yummy, but perhaps, not the healthiest of food choices. Think comfort food (which is why they are often served at midwestern funerals).
