Yes, somebody took an infant into the movie theatre. Naturally, the baby was the loudest during the most sensitive scenes in the movie. We saw Harry Potter and, while there were small kids in the theatre, everyone was quiet, except for the infant. It's a very loud movie, so there's no way a baby could sleep through it.

Who the hell brings small infants to the movies? There were two adults with them infant, so one could have stayed home as a babysitter. I'm not blaming the baby. I'm blaming the parents.

21. Too funny -- there's a lot of that going around. My daughter and I went to see it last night
Edited on Sun Jul-15-07 09:14 PM by SharonRB
There was a woman there with an infant and a toddler. For the first half hour or so of the movie the toddler kept talking and the infant kept crying on and off. Then towards the end the baby started crying again. People were getting really pissed, but no one wanted to go out and get the manager because we didn't want to miss any of the movie.

Before the movie started, I looked around and said to my daughter, "Well, at least there aren't a lot of kids." Little did we know.

About a minute before the movie was over, she got up and left with her kids. She knew we were all going to mob her afterwards and she got out. A bunch of us talked to the manager afterwards. They'd get sued if they didn't sell tickets to people with little kids. They come into the theatre once during the movie and at the time they came in, the kids were quiet, so they had no idea. They should post a way to text message the management in case of crying kids, etc. so they are aware of it and can come in and remove the offending parties.

People have no business bringing infants to the movies, especially at night. If they do, they should at least be considerate enough to leave if their kid is noisy.

They looked like a basic remote control with four buttons. They were basically little tattle-tale contraptions. I don't what the all the buttons said, but I think one was piracy, one was disruption and one was "other".

I googled up a link for you.

29. Thanks for the link -- that's exactly the kind of thing they need
The manager told us they couldn't have staff in each auditorium or they'd have to charge $20 for popcorn to make any money.

In addition to the crying baby there was another woman sitting right near them who kept texting on her phone and you could see it light up every so often. People can be so rude.

The manager told us that when he was at a different theatre in town once a patron punched him when he asked them to turn off their cell phone.

30. Some theaters used to have crying rooms, I think.
Edited on Sun Jul-15-07 09:59 PM by CBHagman
When I was a kid, our church had a crying room, which was where the mothers with screaming babies went during Mass. Apparently some movie theaters used a similar idea.

But frankly, it wasn't until the 1990s that I noticed people taking very young children or even babies to the movies, including to films children ought never to see (Breaking the Waves, for instance). In some areas of Europe, I've heard, children under a certain age don't get admitted at all.

But I'm not surprised the managed cited the possibility of a lawsuit for refusing to admit babies. It's a lose-lose situation for management, with angry customers and ill will in either case.

On edit: Some theaters also do a Mothers' Movie Club, with special screenings for stay-at-home moms. The babies and toddlers are welcome to come along.

49. Some theaters still have crying rooms. I had to wire one a few years ago.
We used to have a baby day. We played kids movies for 50 cents before we would normally open. These sucked for me, I was a projectionist and had to build and break-down a film for a single showing. I would normally go in at 11am, these made me go in at 7am. I hated it. But, the babies could scream forever and nobody cared. The walkways would be packed with strollers.

Said infant cannot possibly enjoy the movie, so bringing him/her is a cruelty. There is a thing called "the babysitter" which would make the infant much happier.

But not really.

It's pretty area specific. Dude always walks in after the previews, we're 15 minutes into the movie, sits down with his cell and asks, "So what did I miss?" And then proceeds to tell his friend over the phone what's happening on the screen for the next 2 hours. There's nothing anyone can do about it because, well, that's New York.

That isn't the norm. Most people go sit in the hall until the movie is over(or the baby calms). I can only think of two complaints about a loud baby in three years of working there. I have seen hundreds of parents sitting on the floor in the hall with their baby.

70. You are definitely right about the "always Catholic" thing
As much as I used to say that wasn't true!

I love being a cradle robber, btw.

68. The teenage girl in my showing was louder than the baby that was also there
I saw HP yesterday and this teenage girl was in the row behind me, about 5-6 seats away. Boy, was she LOUD. She laughed and talked loudly throughout the trailers and I was prepared to tell her to knock it off if she continued that during the movie. Fortunately, she wasn't too bad but whenever she laughed it was louder than anyone else. Oh, and she laughed at things others weren't laughing at. I couldn't decide if she was high, hard of hearing, or someone who had some kind of developmental issue that prevented her from understanding the concept of INSIDE VOICE.

Oh, and there was a baby in the theatre, too, and I think I heard it once.

71. Take a seed outside, leave it in the streets!
Don't talk watch, Don't Talk watch
You came here watch it
If you don't like it walk out
We still have all your fucking money
Do not nudge, kick, or jiggle the seat in front of you!
I am sitting there! I am everywhere at once
And I will cut you up
If you make out here I will cut your lips and tongue from you head with a Linoleum Knife
Do not explain the plot! If you don't understand, then you should not be here!
Your money is now our money! And we will spend it on drugs!
Do not crinkle your food rappers loudly
Be considerate to others or I will bite your torso
Give you a disease
Did you bring your babies... babies don't watch this
Take a seed outside, leave it in the streets!
Run it over after the show!
If I see you videotaping this movie
Satan will rain down your throat with hot acid,
dissolve your testicles,
And turn your guts into snakes!
This is a copyrighted movie for Time-Warner
If I find you've sold it on eBay
I will break into your house and tear your wife in half

73. I've missed so many movies...
...because I couldn't get a sitter and there's no way I would subject movie-goers to my son. He's just not ready to sit through a movie.

I'm usually defending parents whose children are loud in the store or on an airplane. Kids are loud and discipline is tricky.

But at the movies, that's just crazy. There's no reason to bring your baby to the movies.

74. The weird thing was, as stated in the OP, there were two parents there
Two parents with several kids and the infant. Why couldn't Mom take half the kids then meet Dad outside for the baby trade off afterwards and HE take the rest of the kids?

And, I honestly am not just thinking of the moviegoers: the movie was very loud with lots of noise effects.

79. I went to see the original Star Wars back when it first opened.
The theater was filled with kids from high school on down and the crowd was noisy. Finally the lights dimmed and the curtains opened. From the darkness of the theater came a deep high school baritone:"THE FIRST LITTLE KID WHO TALKS, EATS IT!"

Not a sound was heard after that!
