Egads...what is this? Am I still feeling lack of respect...for Paris Hilton???
Edited on Mon Jun-04-07 07:54 PM by Ava
I don't respect Paris Hilton - or most young female celebrities for that matter. They've made the icon of young females into a mockery. It's all coke whores and anorexic party girls - which is their own god given choice to be that way, but it's not fair to a lot of average young women. Sorry, but I just STILL don't respect her - and more importantly I don't care about her. I tend to turn my news channel whenever news about her or any other news celebrity is shown on the TV screen. I'm tired of seeing her on the so called "news" and the same goes for the news that is only meant for entertainment purposes. People are dying in a war based on lies everyday, yet Paris Hilton and Lindsey Lohan get more air time than the war coverage. It's just sad.

agh!

rant over

1. As long as you don't use "disrespect" as a verb....
I give you permission to feel no respect for Paris Hilton.

2. It's an image foisted upon girls that they are expected to conform to.
Just another piece of the underlying sexism of our society.

but as a young woman i know what it's like to have that pressure of pop culture on you. it completely sucks.

12. it IS easier for guys, because the pressure isn't as great.
it's always seemed to me that girls/young women are pressured a lot more than young men are.

16. well i 've never been a guy - so i can't say that it isn't as hard
but i know it sure seems a lot harder to me for girls my age. then again i can't really say for sure, just what it feels like for me.

you're nothing if you're not beautiful...seems to be the message sent to young women via entertainment and media.

was that mistake, it ended up giving them more rights

18. If someone freaks out about something, and I say...
Why the hell should we care about Paris Hilton, you breaking your nail, staining your shirt, when there are innocent boys dying over in Iraq, for some reason, people don't like me grounding them? This was like a year or so ago, and I don't really do that anymore. Honestly, I feel lucky when the only thing in my life that is effecting my day is me breaking a nail, staining a shirt. As long as no one is dying, I'm good, but apparently when I voice this, people don't like being told that their crises aren't really crises.

21. Well, put in perspective, such things may not seem like a big deal...
and of course, the worst of our problems might be the least of problems to someone who's been to hell and back...but to the person experiencing it at the time, it is very upsetting. It might seem silly, but it does bother them. 'Grounding' them probably makes them feel like they're not being heard/validated.
So, it's not polite of people to flame you for it, but I can understand why people were offended.

27. Hi Ava,
If the media stopped covering her every move,
what would happen?

Imagine- no reporters camped outside the jail.

She
would
disappear
from
the
spotlight.

But right now, they won't do
that- she's still a hot news item.

ABC7 reported a photo of her taken in jail
is worth $500.000.!
Paparazzis are gonna bust inside, somehow, someway.

Frankly, I don't give a damn.

And I'm proud of you for feeling the same way.

There is real news to cover, and this isn't it.

:hi:

You are sooo esoteric.
I keed- :hi:

Hey- if you lived in my parts of the woods it would be
IMPOSSIBLE to avoid- she's everywhere!

So, I don't really give a damn, my dear
HOWEVER---

She's some damn omnipresent being that wafts over
the greater Los Angeles area.

And then I ask-

what in the hell does this person do?
besides photo shoots and getting into trouble?

30. Isn't she going to jail or something?
I haven't been following the story, I really don't care, beyond a vague sense of pity over how shallow the whole lifestyle is, but then I think to myself, Paris could choose another life if she wanted to. She doesn't have to live like this.
