Don't the mountains tear up the tornados?

It's calmed down a bit now. Storms have moved east. Look out Kansas, here they come.

Tornadoes in Denver are pretty rare, but they do occur. Smallish ones - usually just funnel clouds. Sometimes they touch down and tear off a roof or two. Nothing like the monsters you get further east, but still scary. The wind was blowing so hard I was wondering if the windows were going to hold.
