I wonder if any birds will come to our bird feeder...
I keep seeing birds on our porch, so I set up the bird feeder I bought recently...I'm sure they'll ignore it completely, now that it's there. :P

4. Is the feeder close enough to a tree or shrubs?
Edited on Thu May-10-07 07:01 AM by zanne
They need some "cover". It also depends on what kind of seed is in there and what kinds of birds you have.

6. What do you mean by 'cover'?
It's mixed bird seed for wild birds...And we have all kinds of sparrow types, starlings, bluejays, etc.

7. They don't like eating out in the open....
I guess they're just paranoid. But if you have sparrows, they should be attacking that bird seed pretty soon. They're little piggies.

9. Well, our porch has a roof over it, and there are trees next door
They sure like to hang out on our railing...If they don't take to it, I might get one of those railing clamps and put it there instead. :)

Once the sparrows find it and get used to it, you won't be able to get rid of them. I think a porch is good "cover", too. When I first started feeding sparrows, I used to buy one of those little bags of mixed seed every couple of weeks. Seven years later, I had to stop feeding them altogether because I couldn't afford 50 lbs. of birdseed every week (in the winter) and there were bird droppings everywhere. (I think it's a "word of beak" thing with them).

12. Oh, I will...
And yes, I figure once one or two of them find it, word will spread. We have quite a hearty bird population here, as I live across from a wooded cemetery. Let's just hope the seagulls don't start stopping by too! :o

13. Patience, grasshopper.
The birds are waiting for the Globe restaurant critic to give it a thumbs up before they flock to it.

15. All-Star Feeder Bar, Quinzee.
Maybe it'll become famous if you switch to premium blend (all sunflower seed, all of the time.)
