I know I need to mow the lawn, but it's so pretty right now with
swaths of a small blue and white flower. I should have a field of dandelions any day now. Some wild flowers just get no respect! The kids say they can tell which lawns use chem-lawn and which ones don't.

1. I had a friend who decided not to mow at all one year
He had a big lawn and just let it grow up. In addition, he scattered all his fruit and vegetable peelings and leftovers out there.

It was gorgeous. The weeds got so high, you couldn't see his place from the road. And things began to grow. He had several tomato plants and the weeds acted as stakes holding them up. The only way to find the ripe tomatoes was to crawl around the lawn looking for bright red globes.

So one day, we were out there crawling around looking for tomatoes and the town listers showed up to assess the property. I can't imagine what they thought when we emerged from the underbrush, bearing tomatoes.
