2. No music.
I expect it to be short, sweet and cheap. Just toss me in a fire until I'm a pile of ashes, scatter me someplace, and have done with it.

If people are feeling nice they can gather for a pot luck dinner and talk about me. :)

3. Something inappropriate- maybe "Big Girls Don't Cry"- or "Dead Man's Curve"
Barbara-Ann would be cool too- or an up-tempo Dorsey Brother's number...

Anyone who knows me would "get it"

My youngest son played "Somewhere 0ver the Rainbow" as a duet with his piano teacher at his first ( and only ) recital. He was six or seven. There wasn't a dry eye in the place, I will always cherish the memory.

I would choose "We'll Meet Again", sung by Vera Lynn

44. This song has a special place in my heart
my daughter was in chorus in 6-8th grade and they went to a competition every year at the Great Adventure near us...
They sang this song one year and I cried like a baby, it was the most beautiful version I have ever heard....
They didn't win that year (they came in first the year before) but they won the
Esprit de corps (spelling) and they were to young to understand what that meant.....

:)

35. Let There Be Morning - The Perishers
Now the end is drawing near
I can’t believe it’s finally here
Take some time to pray for me
For what will be

Let the sun rise
Let the birds sing
Let there be light
Let there be morning

I don’t know how
I made it till now
Let there be light
Let there be morning

Hello future goodbye past
Now each breath can be my last
Will I see another dawn?
Will I be reborn?

37. "Forever Young" by Alphaville
Lets dance in style, lets dance for a while
Heaven can wait were only watching the skies
Hoping for the best but expecting the worst
Are you going to drop the bomb or not?

Let us die young or let us live forever
We dont have the power but we never say never
Sitting in a sandpit, life is a short trip
The musics for the sad men

Can you imagine when this race is won
Turn our golden faces into the sun
Praising our leaders were getting in tune
The musics played by the madmen

Forever young, I want to be forever young
Do you really want to live forever, forever and ever

Some are like water, some are like the heat
Some are a melody and some are the beat
Sooner or later they all will be gone
Why dont they stay young

Its so hard to get old without a cause
I dont want to perish like a fading horse
Youth is like diamonds in the sun
And dimonds are forever

So many adventures couldnt happen today
So many songs we forgot to play
So many dreams are swinging out of the blue
We let them come true

38. Don't Bogart That Joint
Lyrics: Lawrence Wagner
Music: Elliot Ingber

Played by Little Feat's Paul Barrere and Bill Payne with Phil & Friends. The original verson (on the soundtrack of "Easy Rider") was by Fraternity Of Man. It was subsequently covered by Little Feat.

Chorus
Don't bogart that joint my friend
Pass it over to me
Don't bogart that joint my friend
Pass it over to me

Roll another one
Just like the other one
You've been holding on to it
And I sure will like a hit

Roll another one
Just like the other one
That one's burned to the end
Come on and be a real friend

Recordings

1969? Easy Rider (Soundtrack)
1988 The Last Record Album (Little Feat)

40. "Time to Say Goodbye"
http://www.xs4all.nl/~josvg/cits/sb/sb412.html

In English:

((Sarah))
When I'm alone
I dream of the horizon
and words fail;
yes, I know there is no light
in a room where the sun is absent,
if you are not here with me.
At the windows
show everyone my heart
which you set alight;
enclose within me
the light you
encountered on the street.

Time to say goodbye. -- I'll go with you
to countries I never
saw and shared with you,
now, yes, I shall experience them.
I'll go with you
on ships across seas
which, I know,
no, no, exist no longer;
it's time to say goodbye. -- with you I shall experience them.

((Andrea))
When you are far away
I dream of the horizon
and words fail,
and, yes, I know
that you are with me;
you, my moon, are here with me,
my sun, you are here with me
with me, with me, with me.

Time to say goodbye. -- I'll go with you
to countries I never
saw and shared with you,
now, yes, I shall experience them.
I'll go with you
on ships across seas
which, I know,
no, no, exist no longer,

((Both))
with you I shall experience them again.
I'll go with you
on ships across seas
which, I know,
no, no, exist no longer,
with you I shall experience them again.
I'll go with you.

You and me.

53. Poor Judd Is Dead
from the musical Oklahoma

only substitute my name in there...

Pore SPK Is Daid

Poor SPK is dead
Poor SPK Fry is dead
All gather round his coffin now and cry
He had a heart of gold
And he wasn't very old
Oh why did such a feller have to die?

Poor SPK is dead
Poor SPK is dead
He's lookin' oh so peaceful and serene ( and serene)
He's all laid out to rest
With his hands acrost his chest
His fingernails have never been so clean

Then the preacher'd get up and he'd say
"Folks, we are gathered here to mourn and groan over our brother Jud Fry
Who hung hisself up by a rope in the smokehouse"
And then there'd be weepin' an' wailin' --- from some of those women ---
Then he'd say, "SPK was the most misunderstood man in this territory
People used to think he was a mean ugly fella and called him a dirty skunk and an ornery pig stealer

But

The folks that really knowed him
Knowed that beneath them two dirty shirts he always wore
There beat a heart as big as all outdoors (] as big as all outdoors)
SPK loved his fellow man (] he loved his fellow man)

He loved the birds of the forest
And the beasts of the fields
He loved the mice and the vermin in the barn
And he treated the rats like equals (which was right)
He loved all the little children
He loved everything and everybody in the world
Only . . . only he never let on
And nobody ever knowed it

Poor SPK is dead
Poor SPK is dead
His friends are weepin' wail for miles around ( miles around)
The daisies in the dell
Will give out a different smell
Because poor Jud is underneath the ground

58. I can't do just one, but I have 3 in this order:
1. "Ashokan Farewell"--the mournful guitar and fiddle instrumental I first heard on Ken Burn's The Civil War played to a reading of the letter from Sullivan Ballou (I cannot watch it without crying).

2. Followed by "May It Be" by Enya from The Fellowship of the Ring, also beautifully mournful if you understand and appreciate the story (I love the Elvish lyrics).

3. Finally, "I'm Walking on Sunshine" by Katrina and the Waves. Possibly the most toe-tapping and upbeat song I have heard. The first 2 songs are a setup for this one.

63. D.O.A. by Bloodrock
Laying here looking at the ceiling
Someone lays a sheet across my chest
Something warm is flowing down my fingers
Pain is flowing all through my back

I try to move my arms and there's no feeling
And when I look I see there's nothing there

The face beside me stopped it totally bleeding
The girl I knew has such a distant stare

I remember
We were flying along and hit something in the air
I remember
We were flying along and hit something in the air

Then I looked straight at the attendant
His face is pale as it can be
He bends and whispers something softly
He says there's no chance for me

I remember
We were flying along and hit something in the air
I remember
We were flying along and hit something in the air

Life is flowing out my body
Pain is flowing out with my blood
The sheets are red and moist where I'm lying
God in Heaven, teach me how to die

I remember
We were flying along and hit something in the air
I remember
We were flying along and hit something in the air

Good thing that grandfather was a completely racist, adulterous, abusive prick or it would have been disappointing.

Or Jay's rant from Jay and Silent Bob strike back.

One of those.

Don't cry
You know the tears will do no good
So dry your eyes

They told you life is hard
Misery from the start, it's dull
It's slow, it's painful

But I tell you life is sweet
In spite of the misery
There's so much more,
be grateful

Well, who do you believe
Who will you listen to,
who will it be
Because it's high time that you decide
In your own mind

106. Excellent choice
on the Allegri Miserere. My husband heard it on our local Public Radio station one day, called me from work and asked me what it was (my first degree is in music). I didn't know so I called the radio station and they told me what it was. Interesting background on that one re: Mozart's transcription. Anyway, one of my favorite pieces.

95. That's one of my very favorites.
It's best played on vinyl. I used to think it was called "Blue Canoe" until I looked at the record. I haven't listened to it in a few years, probably because, if I did, I would be reminded of someone very dear to me who died way too young.

But remember that funerals are supposed to be for the general masses of the living who knew you fairly well, and not just for the nearest and dearest who will have hearts broken no matter what music is played.

115. I'd like to give one last finger to the religious community ...
and have "Judith" by "A Perfect Circle" played.

You're such an inspiration
For the ways that I will
Never, ever choose to be
Oh so many ways for me to show you
How your savior has abandoned you

Fuck your God, your Lord, your Christ
He did this, took all you had and
Left you this way, still you pray, never stray, never
Taste of the fruit, never thought to question "why?"

It's not like you killed someone
It's not like you drove a hateful spear into his side
Praise the one who left you broken down and paralyzed

He did it all for you...
He did it all for you...

Oh so many ways for me to show you
How you dogma has abandoned you

Pray to your Christ, to your God
Never taste of the fruit, never stray, never break, never
Choke on a lie even though he's the one who
Did this to you, you never thought to question "why?"

It's not like you killed someone
It's not like you drove a spiteful spear into his side
Talk to Jesus Christ as if he knows the reasons why

He did it all for you...
He did it all for you...
He did it all for you

118. I guess it would be "Thoroughfare Gap" by Stephen Stills.
Crosby Stills Nash Thoroughfare Gap Lyrics
(Stephen Stills)
Intro. (Acoustic Guitar)
Sometimes i consider my pace
I'm reminded of a train
Gathering speed for the climb to the pass
In whose shadow it already lies a small metal dragon
Approaching the ever-present ascending rise
To the seventh mountain
Reeling and snaking and leaping it seems
Like it wants to come loose from its path cast in iron
But she can't slow down now as the earth has presented
A new crest to reach without barely a rest
From the last one
And you wonder just what lies beyond
Though you've been there before
And forget about the effort and the strain
Always ascending each yard adds a mile
To the never-ending pull of the steepening grade
That's before you
A valley a forest a desert a stream
With an oversized bridge for the trickle there beneath
You remember the torrent it turned to last spring
From the snows melting fast and the river it became
In the summer
Perhaps it is ruined from a fire that has scorched it
So badly that nothing will grow without rain
To wash away the blackened soil
Now useless till called upon again
In a future as twisted and far away
As the next range of mountains
So take it as far as you see and beyond
With eyes you don't use enough gather up strength
As thoroughfare gap will await you forever
You're seeking to get there for even before
It's no matter
No distance
It's the ride

Or maybe this one by John Denver (just to be irreverant):

John Denver - Forest Lawn Lyrics

(Paxton)
Oh, lay me down in Forest Lawn in a silver casket
with golden flowers over my head in a silver basket.
Let the drum and bugle corp play taps while cannons roar.
While sixteen liveried employees sell souvenirs from the funeral store.
I wanna go simply when I go. They'll give me a simple funeral there, I know.
With a casket lined in fleece and the fireworks spelling out "Rest in Peace,"
Oh, take me when I'm gone to Forest Lawn.

Oh, lay me down in Forest Lawn, they understand there.
They have a heavenly choir in the military band there.
Just put me in their care, I'll find my comfort there.
With sixteen planes in a last salute, they'll drop a cross in a parachute.
I wanna go simply when I go, they'll give me a simple funeral there I know
With a hundred strolling strings and topless dancers with golden wings,
Oh, take me when I'm gone to Forest Lawn.

Oh, come, come, come, come, come to the church in the wild wood,
Kindly leave a contribution in the pail.
Be as simple and as trusting as a child would and we'll sell you the church in the dale.

To find a simple resting place is my desire.
To lay me down with a smiling face comes a little bit higher.
My likeness cast in brass will stand in plastic grass
While hidden weights and springs tips it's hat to the mourners filing past.

I wanna go simply when I go. They'll give me a simple funeral there I know.
I'll lie beneath the sand with piped-in tapes of Billy Graham,
oh, take me when I'm gone to forest lawn.

Rock of ages cleft for me for a slightly higher fee. Oh, take me when I'm gone to forest lawn.
