Here's the cash wrap I purchased from Craigslist today. It's actually a reception desk from a salon, but hey, it works for me. I got a working cash register with a cash drawer along with it. It has storage cabinets and drawers in the back. Matches the shelves pretty well, too.

I visited the Canadian Rockies about 4 years ago with my then-gf (hint-hint) :evilgrin: - that picture was taken in Jasper, and we spent time in Lake Louise, Banff, Canmore, and Calgary as well. Even with the weather over the course of the vacation ranging from borderline to absolutely atrocious (snow in Lake Louise in August), Banff & Jasper National Parks are without a doubt the most beautiful places in the world...I'd go back there in a heartbeat!

You hit the right spots in Alberta. :thumbsup: While in Jasper, did you get to Maligne Lake? Did you also get to Waterton Lakes? It's right on the border with the US...another very beautiful spot. Less touristy than Jasper or Banff...

I remember one summer visit to Lake Louise, and I witnessed an avalanche on the peak in the middle. It sounded like a fighter jet flew about 5 ft over me...it was loud!

Were there lots of animals roaming in the town of Jasper? One winter I was there, and we would walk across town to get breakfast. The streets were carpeted with deer, elk, moose...the big horn sheep seemed to congregate at the railroad tracks. I literally had to weave in and out of all those animals - they wouldn't move for me! (so much for the myth of polite Canucks!) - it always looked like grazing rush hour. Just wonderous, to be less than a foot from them, in such beautiful surroundings.

Be prepared for snow at any time in southern Alberta. Personally, I think it's all ironflange's fault...

Once again, I'm fooled by the concept of the very tricky time zone! :silly:

Regarding the Moose vs. Oaf debate, perhaps I should just have it determined by a Lounge poll...I'm sure that would settle things properly! If I make enough dumb-ass comments, I think the poll would skew toward "Oaf" pretty quickly! :P

I didn't see Maligne Lake, but did go to Moraine Lake just a little ways north of Lake Louise. My brother and sister-in-law had visited the Canadian Rockies a couple of years before, and had taken some incredible shots of Moraine Lake in the bright sunshine, so I was just crushed when I woke up to snow and fog that morning, but was determined to see it anyway. After hiking the trail that led to the lake (hoping the fog would lift), I got to the shoreline to see the thickest bank of fog I've probably encountered in my entire life - so I've got some nice pictures of the lake that could easily be confused with shots of a polar bear in a blizzard... :eyes:

We wanted to make the hike up the mountain at Lake Louise to the teahouse, but the rain had picked up and intensified to the point where any outdoor activity would have been just miserable.

Animal encounters - excellent question! There was a moose nibbling on some leaves and berries in the early evening, literally on the edge of town in Jasper, just off the roadway - I had to do a U-turn just to get another look at her (assuming female as there were no antlers). We chose to do the Maligne Canyon hike the next day from the bottom, and just after starting out, we crossed a creek and saw a mother elk with her baby approaching the bridge. After crossing and stepping off to the side, Mama Elk noticed the baby dawdling, and let out this loud, high-pitched squawk, and baby immediately came dutifully running to her. They crossed the bridge, and I took a couple of amazing shots of them as they walked by, probably no more than 10 feet away (oops - sorry...3 meters). I had enough sense not to stand directly in their path, as I know that Mama Elk wouldn't have any reservation about knocking me down if she saw me as a threat to baby, even though they're probably semi-tame, dealing with as many tourists as they see. Bighorn sheep were spotted in several places, although I never had a chance to get close to any of those. It was hard to get excited over the white-tailed deer, as I see them everywhere here in Iowa. We did hand-feed one of the little chipmunks on top of Whistler Mountain, though!

I think I may to do some behind-the-scenes manipulation of the Lounge audience :evilgrin: in to order, um, get the proper information across, just for the purpose of accuracy...yeah, that's the ticket! ;-)
