7. Man, what the frack just happened?!?!
Are we even certain at this point that Tyrol, Tigh, Tory & Anders ARE four of the Final Five? Which begs the question, who is the final ONE? I'm going with Roslin or Baltar.

2008?! 27. not sure
While it's clear that something is up with the 4 of them, it is not certain that they are Cylons. Tyrol draws the conclusion that they are all Cylons, but the evidence is inconclusive:

1. In the past when a Cylon sleeper agent was activated (Boomer, Tina on the Pegasus) they just acted out their programming, with no memory of committing the act. The only Cylon slipped into the fleet with the full knowledge he was a Cylon was Leoben in season 1.

2. It has never previously been mentioned that the Cylons used musical cues. And even if they did, why would the producers sub in a song that they knew would be familiar to a lot of the viewers? It's weird.

3. The other people on Galactica who are known Cylons or have Cylon cells in their bodies (Laura Roslin, Athena, Caprica Six) did not hear the music.

4. If Tyrol is a Cylon, that would make his son a hybrid, negating the importance of Athena's daughter Hera.

2 and 3 could be explained away by saying that these 4 are a special type of Cylon, subject to different rules and conventions that the other Cylons we've met. I thnk we may be dealing with a third entity or plot point that is new to the storyline. One thing about this show that I like is that when they seem to be working to convince you that a plot point is true, that is your first signal that isn't the case. They were working way too hard to convince us that these 4 are Cylons.

Need proof? Look at how hard they worked to convince us Starbuck was dead--right down to taking Katee Sackoff's name off the credits (an unusual move when a character dies midseason). That was my first clue that our girl wasn't done for.

And I love Col. Tigh for what he said has the Cylons attack. Minus the alcoholism, he is the bad ass I want to be when I grow up.

51. Interesting:
3. The other people on Galactica who are known Cylons or have Cylon cells in their bodies (Laura Roslin, Athena, Caprica Six) did not hear the music.

But Roslin went w/ Athena to speak w/ Six, asking her why they were in the Opera House together on Caprica. This event seemed to happen at the same time as the music was heard. And Roslin seemd to have headaches at the same time the others were hearing the music.

Interesting.

4. If Tyrol is a Cylon, that would make his son a hybrid, negating the importance of Athena's daughter Hera.

Hera was born first and is the only known born to a Cylon woman. And there was a comment made when Hera was born about how she was conceived in love. Tyrol and Cally are very much in love, making this a possibility. (We know how this goes-you gotta look back at comments in the past. Supposedly part of the storyline was planned the entire time.)

Maybe Hera was the proof that it could be done. Or maybe Hera was part of the bargain-we don't know if Tyrol's son was also supposed to be involved or not initially.

It was an interesting episode all the way 'round. The Cylons had such a hard-on for Kara-makes sense that they would program someone to get as close as possible to her w/o either of them knowing it. And weren't the Chief and Boomer once involved? Seems like he once thought he was a Cylon but Baltar tested him and said no. (Of course, Baltar also messed w/ his own test when Sharon came up positive.)

You are correct about one thing-Tigh is a badass. I want to be either him or that damn doctor when I finally decide to grow up. (I'm 32 now.) Neither one shows up to play-they both show up to kick ass.

Edited on Thu Mar-29-07 11:05 AM by kgfnally
AT THE SAME TIME as the Cylon fleet. We very clearly saw her die, Raptors don't have jumpdrives, and her own ship was very much destroyed when she went into the storm. Yet- there she was, appearing very much alive, and in a Raptor, to boot.

This series leaves only one way for all of those things to be true simultaneously. We get to chew on that until January '08.

Bastards.

In some sci-fi "transporters" are described as seeming to destroy the matter they transport.

In the universe of Trek they have the pattern buffer gimmick.

Ha, it would, on some level, be neat to see that Kara was both killed and yet at the same time was transported as Kara 2. Lol, she could be totally human and yet still be on a second incarnation, like a Cylon, in a manner of speaking.

The fun part is that she probably wouldn't even know that. The writers get to save that revelation, with all the existential angst, for later. And for a bonus we get the mystery of if it was a natural phenomenon or if there was an intelligent design behind it.

If the writers were feeling extra sadistic they could include "bonus features" for Kara. Like maybe now she has been attuned to the forces within the spatial event (Like Zelazny's Pattern initiates from his Amber series*). And maybe, like B5's Sheridan after Z'ha'dum, she has a shortened lifespan, and like Moses, won't live to see the promised land.

Just thinking out loud.

*She could also be like the Pattern Ghosts, she could be getting placed, repeatedly and for short durations, wherever the anomaly chooses and not totally in control of herself. Lol, in Zelazny's series the blood of an Amberite could cure the affliction. I'd see Kara needing a different treatment. Don't look at me like that! It's those nasty writers.

53. Someone on a message board
managed to get ahold of the final script and posted the ending, including her telling about finding Earth and about who were the Cylons.

There was a massive clean-up campaign to convince everyone that the poster was a fraud. Lots of interviews, including Katee Sackhoff, telling everyone that they were misdirected.

The poster was correct-down to the song chosen for play at the end. Incredible-there is an honest to goodness leak on the set.

65. That part was obvious
but what was interesting was how a poster managed to get the final script, telling everything that happened from the beginning of the episode to the very last second. And it was just as interesting to see everyone from BSG scurry and try to find ways to make that person sound like a fraud. (The writers and production staff admit to reading the boards for BSG, just like the writers and production do for Lost and Heroes.)

I read the spoiler before the "Starbuck is dead" episode and that poster nailed it, word for word. Supposedly no cast member had a copy of the entire script for the last episode so someone in production must have leaked.

In the world of spoiler geeks that poster's stock went up 1000%. (And yes, I'm part of that world, unfortunately.)

of all sites, the Sci-Fi channel site for another forum. I followed the link from there.

I'll take a look around there again but the first three times someone put up a link Sci-Fi almost immediately took it down.

There was another link on Survivor Sucks but someone came in and took it out. Supposedly it was the same poster trying to hook others over to the forum. I'll send a few pm at Sucks to find out if they remember the forum.

It was one of the most awesome spoilers I've ever read-almost as good as ChillOne spoiling the entire season of Survivor Amazon a month before the season even aired.

21. My prediction...
In the first season of Battlestar Galactica... the Cylon, Leobon, said, "This has all happened before, and will happen again..."

Therefore, I think...

A long time ago on Earth (our future), humans made artificial beings that eventually rebelled against their creators...

Survivors of the rebellion (maybe human or maybe not) settled on Kobol, built more artificial beings that eventually rebelled against their creators...

Survivors of the rebellion on Kobol fled to form the 12 colonies and built the Cylons that eventually rebelled against their creators...

Tigh, Tyrol, Tory, and Anders are four of the final five -- ancient Cylons (from Earth or Kobol).

Thoughts?

28. That's been in my mind, too
Or, Tigh, Tyrol, Tory and Anders (and possibly Starbuck) are descendants of the original human/machine hybrids. Which could explain the mental hookup the 4 were experiencing and why it seemed so different from the Cylon behavior we are familiar with, why Starbuck's mom was certain she was special, and why Tyrol recognized the Temple of the Five--it could all be part of some kind of biological, genetic memory.

32. Very interesting theory!
If they were all only children that would make it even better.

It would be like, the first Cylons had difficulty passing the gene and/or having kids. For the next batch, the ones like Six, reproducing isn't feasible.

Suppose all of humanity has a recessive "Cylon gene".

Lol, except for the inhabitants of the lost colony of earth. If so, that meeting could end badly if they find out.

So maybe the Cylons tried to pull a fast one by creating hybrids and hoping the gene would spread. Then they waited but saw no obvious results. Centuries later they say "frack it" and go into the lab and created the Cylons we know today.

Another interesting thing. That "Minority Report" type Cylon on the basestar, her abilities might be connected to those of Tigh and the others. The Tigh group comes into its own when its parts are together. This is similar to how the precogs functioned in Minority Report. So, if they can join up with the one still missing .....

This is also similar to what happens in the sc-fi classic "More Than Human" by Theodore Sturgeon.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/More_Than_Human

P.S. I'm going to have to watch again the part where Tigh talks to Adama. Could Adama be hearing the music but is in denial or is fighting it off?

29. Maybe
However, I have heard that there might be some kind of BSG backstory movie that will be aired in between the seasons (before Jan. 2008). Also, they are working on a spin-off prequel series, possibly set during the Cylon war. That could be delaying the next season of BSG. But personally, I wonder if it would be better for us to wait until 2008, and get a really strong season, then to rush it and get the 50/50 split of good vs. crappy that we got this season.

30. Salon has a Ronald D. Moore interview up
http://www.salon.com/ent/feature/2007/03/24/battlestar/

"We won't be seeing Season 4 until January 2008, but I understand there's going to be some kind of miniseries or movie coming before then?"

"There is something that they're calling "extra episodes" or "extended episodes" -- they keep shifting the nomenclature. Essentially, we are shooting two hours of "Galactica" that will be broadcast on SciFi Channel sometime in the fall. Let's say they broadcast it on a Friday; then, on the following Monday, it will be available on DVD.

That story will not pick up our cliffhanger at the end of Season 3. That didn't seem right. The story will be set on the Battleship Pegasus and will take place in the past, relative to where we are in Season 3. But the events set up in that story will then pay off in Season 4."

"There's been talk of you doing another series called "Caprica," set before the cylon attack on the colony of that name. Is that still happening?"

"It's possible. It's been in development at SciFi for a while and they haven't picked it up. And I don't know if they're going to pick it up at this point. There's talk of doing it as a TV movie and seeing how that works, as a back-door pilot, much as we did with the "Galactica" miniseries. Right now there's nothing telling me that they're going to move on it anytime soon, so I'm starting to feel that it's going to remain on the development shelf".

31. Thanks, Babel!
Here's another theory I just picked up from a TV critic...What if everyone is a Cylon? What if there are no 100% true humans left? This is in the "All this has happened before" vein. What if long, long ago on Kobol, humanity developed the first batch of advanced robots, they figured out the biological leap to procreation, and either interbred with or out bred the humans? Eventually they forgot or supressed the idea that they weren't truely humans. That could make an interesting season 4.

Or, the Cylons really won the war with the Colonies, took over, and for reasons unknown now, decided to simply step in and take over humanity's place, complete with rewriting their history? The current Cylon/human war could then be played as an unwitting Cylon civil war.

33. Interesting, thanks!
Going from that, supposing that is mostly true: Assume there was a hybridization, but the vast majority of humanity wasn't let in on it. But a mistake was made, they created the toasters/still used toasters but didn't predict they would eventually evolve enough to come up with their own agenda. The toasters didn't know the battle was already won.

It could also be the case that toasters would never have come to oppose the colonies. But the colonies also created AI's and they became the root source of the later problems. The BSG from the seventies utilized the plot device of a much more advanced line of toasters. It's hard to see the centurions of todays BSG as having ever come up with the ambitious plans needed to have set things in motion.

Omg, another thought: In the very beginning of the series, and then later on, it's mentioned that Baltar worked with the mainframe computer of Caprica's defense. I have to wonder, Baltar being Baltar, did he use unauthorized methods? Did he maybe use a direct link of some kind? Assuming the mainframe was inhabited by an AI, that could explain chip six, the cylon that is in his head.

Though that scenario could exist by itself, Caprica Six could have interfaced too and then created the means to get in Baltar's head.

I have to admit, I'd rather it didn't turn out that everything was predetermined.

61. The writer of that article clarified with Moore a HUGE issue on everyone's mind
If any of you belong to Salon-- we've got a fun BSG discussion group on Salon's Table Talk -- I would encourage you to stop in and be silly with us! Laura Miller, the writer of the above-mentioned Salon piece, participates in our bulletin board and we had her ask Moore to settle once and for all the great frak wars of the 21st century. Moore's answer -- it's frak, not frack :silly:

Although, I hate prequels. It's a disturbing trend, IMO. They usually suck.

The Battlestar Galactica timeline at Battlestar Wiki:

Puts all the events mentioned in the new series in a timeline. You might want to wait until tomorrow though, I can't even get on the site today.

41. Question for the experts.
I rarely watch TV, so there's a lot I just don't get. But one question seems relevant: What was the source of that music?

It led them to a physical location, so it doesn't seem like it could have been all in their heads. That means someone else was behind it. So that would mean the 5th Cylon is probably responsible. Right?

42. Good questions
for which I don't have answers. :)

I guess a lot of people kicked the idea around that Starbuck might be connected. The song seems to be from Earth and who has just visited there? Plus, that was a square they stood around, four sides, and they were all facing the middle of it (I think). That scene was maybe making the point someone should be standing in the middle. So many ways to take it.

Maybe they have a homing "instinct"/imperative and that spot was equidistant? Maybe the last of the five needed to be there for some underlying conditioning to come bubbling to the top. Remember the movie Telefon? Maybe there's one more line that needs to be spoken. :)

Lol, ok, that part is a stretch.

44. That interview helped
So, they are definitely in the final 5--unless Moore changes his mind (he's been known to change scripts and plots on the fly, so nothing's in stone until the final edit is done). But there is still a lot of explaining that needs to be done--what makes them different from other Cylons, are they still some sort of hybrid or older/new type of Cylon, are they robots based on real people, do they actually have free will, etc.

As for Starbuck, Katee Sackoff is the only actor on this show who has been promised that her character will NOT turn out to be a Cylon. That opens up a lot plot possibilites. Was the raider she was chasing piloted by rebel Cylons, looking to make allies with humans and saving her to make her an envoy? Have the Cylons figured out how to download a human conciousness into a new body, and made Starbuck a new body using the genetic info in that ovary they stole? (that could also explain Tigh's ability to grow old. There once was a real Saul Tigh, but he was replaced with a Cylon body.) Since she was flying her Raptor, what was it that Lee saw explode? Or is Starbuck a kind of half-goddess? We know a lot about mom, but nothing about dad. And Hercules' mom knew he had a "special destiny" too. Hey, if Baltar can be Jesus...

And one more thing...has anyone else noticed that this show has only 3 or 4 character who are possibly old enough to have been born before the Cylon war. Statistically, we should have run into more people 60 years or older. Perhaps there was a baby boom after the war, and yes, we want young hot actors to look at, but that could make for an intesting plot point, too.

for the info about the promise to Katee Sackoff.

I had another thought after reading that. Remember how Lee Adama was walking one way till he saw the Viper pilots heading to the hangar? Maybe duty overrode the compulsion to hook up with the other Cylons? Except he showed none of the stress the others were showing.

Then again, if he was the leader and the one (subconsciously) responsible for the broadcast ...... Huh, does his break with his father and his resignation coincide with the music starting to play?

Lol, many suspects.

Edit: Hmmm, thinking out loud, Kara hears the broadcast (possibly many light years from earth), she has a special connection to Lee, it reverberates in Lee's head (subconsciously) and gets mixed up with the carrier wave for the "let's hook up" message to the other Cylons.

If so, I felt they removed some doubt as to what happened this year and they confirm the strongest hunches that were generally held so .... I guess it's a gray area. He doesn't ruin the suspense, I'll say that much. :)

50. Probably is then....
"As for Starbuck, Katee Sackoff is the only actor on this show who has been promised that her character will NOT turn out to be a Cylon."

Which means she probably IS. Foilers are common. When Joss Whedon and his Mutant Enemy writers were doing Buffy, Angel and Firefly they said, straight out, they lie to us ALL the time. They were incredulous that we would think they would tell us the truth about things they didn't really want us to know ahead of time. Some people get hold of real spoilers ahead of time but being that definitive, makes me think it's a foiler, not a spoiler...and makes me think even more that she probably is a Cylon.
In Buffy a lesbian character named Tara is killed off. They asked one of Joss's writers ahead of time...Steve DeKnight, if Tara was going to be killed. He said, "over my dead body." He then wrote the actual script where she was murdered.
Good writers are bad and mean and sadistic...<g> Why I love them. Don't count Starbuck out as a Cylon...my opinion. I'm not saying she is; I'm just saying...

59. "foilers", lol, good one!
Reminds me of the practical joke JMS (Babylon 5) played on Andreas Katsulas and Peter Jurasik in response to one they played on him.

Cliffs Notes: Andreas Katsulas and Peter Jurasik got an audience to go along with the gag of giving JMS a very lukewarm reception at a talk he gave. JMS swore revenge. :)

Months later they're reading a script, in it, Katsulas's character, G'Kar, undergoes a metamorphosis that turns him into a female and then later he'll end up in bed with Jurasik's character, Londo.

They thought it might be a gag though it was a detailed script. Katsulas calls his agent, he asks around, finally the prosthesis he'll have to wear is delivered to his dressing room.

Lol, long story short, not till the last possible moment does JMS tell them "gotcha!".

49. a. b. and maybe c..
a.) I don't know why they are assuming they are Cylons just because they are all hearing Dylan songs...<g>
b.) Even if they are Cylons, it doesn't mean they are four of the final five. It just means..."oops, four more Cylons in the fleet."
c.) How can they make us wait so damn long for more BSG?

Nice to see Starbuck.

62. I'm just speechless. I just watched the recording
I dig the Hendrix.
As far as the new Cylons, I know there's a curve here.
I suspect they were all somehow brainwashed or implanted with chips while in Cylon Detention on New Caprica.
We don't know that Anders and Tyrrel didn't do a little time.
Earth appears to be our earth as North America is fully lit.
At least we're loaded with nukes for the Cylons.
And there is the matter of a massive Cylon fleet bearing down on them with no time to run up the hyperdrives.
I am torqued about the 9 month delay before the next ep.
I'll be back, but these fools might blow the bulk of their own audience in that time.
Even B-5 didn't pause quite that long.

Other than his enduring hatred for Baltar and everything Baltar has done, I don't see where Gaeta has become villanous. Baltar, I believe, has earned any contempt he has coming his way.

From the Ron Moore interview, it seems that those 4 are really cylons. However, at the end of my show, I thought it was maybe BS.

Maybe it's the ship itself.

This could help explain the music the four were hearing and later down the road it might help explain why the official records don't show any glaring irregularities in any of the four's biographies.

Lol, open the pod bay doors, galactica.
