What have you done to spruce up your home lately?
I bought a curtain rod today.

I'm no longer holding the kitchen curtain up with vegetable peelers. :)

3. That must have taken a lot of bleach.
You must play a hell of a game of Scrabble.

5. I'm selling mine so I've been doing EVERYTHING
It never looked this good while we lived there! I've been waxing the wood floors, painting, cleaning the woodwork, washing light fixtures and literally scrubbing the bathroom with an old toothbrush. It's very sparkly and I really don't want anyone even breathing in it for fear it will get messy again.

6. we had plantation shutters installed. Love them and they are really helping
out on the heating bills, hopefully that will be the same this summer for the electric bill.

8. Would you mind posting or PM me details on brand, approximate cost per window?
I want to install them but the SO is unconvinced. I hate our tired old mini blinds and they need to be replaced with something -- shutters would mean we could do without much in the way of drapes too.

14. Those are so pretty. Maybe in a couple of years for me.
My neighbor has them and I'm dripping with envy. I have wood blinds now and they are pretty nice too, though.

There's nothing wrong with being resourceful. Vegetable peelers have many uses. :)

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=287x4701

We also are finishing up our major bathroom renovation (not quite finished, or I'd have posted pix already). And also finishing up the painting of our master bedroom.

We also painted our office! We've been bizzy!

20. Couch, loveseat, coffee table, 2 end tables, new comforter, lamps
That's about it! Next on the agenda: new TV (has to be at least 51" since that is about what ours is now and it is hard to downsize after being used to that) and a new dining room table!

Edited on Thu Mar-22-07 08:57 PM by LaraMN
Ripped down wallpaper in:
-Kid #2's room
-front entryway
-dining room
-downstairs hallway
-upstairs stairway

Painted:
-Kid #1's room
-Kid #2's room
-living room
-dining room
-front entryway
-upstairs stairway
-downstairs hallway
-an assload of wall trim, window trim, shelves, and built-ins

-built a shelf/ pot rack for kitchen
-installed new toilet
-mounted flat screen t.v.
-mounted master bedroom t.v. (on an arm)
-ripped out carpet
-installed/hung new blinds/curtains
-misc. repairs and odd jobs too numerous to detail

And the list of to-do's is still a million miles long.
We just bought the house about three weeks ago, hence all the work. I'm trying to capitalize on my psychotic degree of ambition; I'm afraid I'll become complacent all too soon, and nothing will get done!

25. Thought about using my nice tax refund....
to get the bedroom and hall in my condo painted. I've lived here less than a year, and the the egg-yolk yellow is getting to me. I look like shit in that color.

Planning to ask the building maintenance man, who paints and does other stuff in his spare time. I'd like to throw the bucks in his direction.

Other than that, I am thinking about having the ugly vinyl floor in the kitchen that shows everything dropped on it replaced with a laminate (Pergo-type) wood look, and getting new countertops.

26. I bought a new throw rug for the entry.
I found it last night at Kohls and it has all of "my colors" in it. It's a perfect way to tie everything together at the front door.
