:)

EDIT: Also some states do have E

"Whether the failing grade is F or E typically depends on time and geography. Some states, but not many, have tended to favor E since World War II while the majority of the country tends to use F. Ultimately, the grade F traces to the days of two-point grading as Pass (P) and Fail (F)."

9. Hey! Thanks for the edit. I'm old, but not that old.
In my school system in Maine the grades were A-E, and failing grade was anything below 70 points. I was shocked to find out that most kids had A-D and F, and the failing grade was below 60.

which stated that they started all of this grade scale stuff in the 1800s :)

12. I know the public schools where I lived did.
I went to Catholic school from kindergarten to 9th grade, and when I was in 8th grade, they switched the grades to numbers where 1 was the best and 5 was failing. I recall some kids trying to convince their parents that 5 meant they were the fifth best in their class!

5. If memory serves Va Beach used an "E" in place of "F"
when I was in school through 1985.

8. My Minnesota State University System school had "E" as
the failing grade back in the early 90s--I think it was because the mainframe wasn't progarmmed to skip a letter; or so I was told at any rate. The last time I heard though, that had changed.

11. We did
The school system in Michigan where I attended 1951-1964 used an "E," although before fourth grade we were graded "S" for satisfactory, with S+, S-, and N for not-satisfactory.

It seemed funny to change to A,B,C,D, and F when I went to college.
