Smoke From Fajitas Keep Setting Off Fire Alarms At Applebee's Resulting In Fines
<snip>

DAVIE, Fla. -- Managers at a South Florida Applebee's are trying to figure out how they can continue serving fajitas without the fire department showing up.

The classic fajita skillets keep setting off the fire alarms at the recently opened restaurant.

A Davie Fire Rescue spokesman said that during one two-week period since the restaurant opened in December, firefighters went there almost every day.

So far, the restaurant has been fined $150.

An Applebee's spokesman said that when the stir-fry sauce is mixed with green peppers and sweet onions, a cloud of smoke sets off the alarms in the kitchen and dining areas.

Managers are working with the alarm company to determine whether the alarms are too sensitive. The company reports that it hasn't had this problem at other locations.
