Why do kids these days talk at such a high volume?

My middle school students seem unable to communicate without yelling. I'd swear that my friends and I were not nearly this loud when we were their age. (I'm only in my 30s, so it wasn't that long ago.) Are they all deaf from listening to the rock 'n' roll and the MTV too loudly on their headphones?

2. You are actually right ...

I am one of those who can't hear anything unless its coming out of my back pocket through a cable. Damn shame , I need to turn the volume down lower.

coming from their car stereos. It goes right through my head when they drive by -- it has to be damaging their hearing if they're right there next to it. :shrug:
