Clothing Donations
Edited on Sat Feb-24-07 12:09 PM by Lucky Luciano
I have a lot of nice buttoned shirts that I can no longer wear for work. They are actually very nice shirts - except for the fact that I must lean on my elbows a lot on my desk - so the elbows have holes in them. You cannot donate such clothes to the Salvation Army because they cannot resell them. Is there another way to donate them because it would be so wasteful to throw them all away. They were all $60 during a clearance sale, so they were very nice shirts and I still think they are. Perhaps someone can put them to use if they know how to sew up the elbows or something. I have done my annual clothes shopping trip (I hate shopping) and have replaced my entire wardrobe so I want to donate ASAP. I live in NYC.

PS - I am going out right now to run some errands, so I may not respond to anyone who has ideas right away, but I very much appreciate your assistance!

1. You can offer them on
www.freecycle.org

When you want to find a new home for something -- whether it's a chair, a fax machine, piano, or an old door -- you simply send an e-mail offering it to members of the local Freecycle group.

Or, maybe you're looking to acquire something yourself. Simply respond to a member's offer, and you just might get it. After that, it's up to the giver to decide who receives the gift and to set up a pickup time for passing on the treasure.

Our main rule: Everything posted must be free, legal, and appropriate for all ages.

2. Church Clothes Closet
The women of the church repair, wash & iron those items before giving them out.

Elbows with holes in them are easy, the sleeves can be cut off & hemmed into short sleeve shirts.
