The niece of a friend of mine fell in love with a young marine, and accepted his proposal of marriage. Not long after becoming engaged, he was deployed to Iraq. She planned for their wedding to take place after he returned from Iraq. Only Dumbyass decided to extend our troops deployment. So she had to cancel everything, and reliquish deposits.

She's entered a contest to win a free wedding; and could really benefit by having as many people vote for them as possible.

When something happens, you want to be able to give folks a break; but on the other hand, deposits ensure that people receive some sort of compensation when they've been hired to do a job. I recently agreed to perform for a wedding and refund the deposit if the groom is redeployed. But the wedding is scheduled for Labor Day weekend, which is one of the busiest wedding dates of the year. If he's redeployed within a month of the wedding, it's not likely that I'll find another gig to replace it.
