Who is the cheapest person you know?
If it's you, I give you the option whether to mention yourself or the next cheapest.

For me, it's my grandmother. Unfortunately, it seems like the relatives who have the most money are least willing to give it out. My dad still gets $150 for his birthday no matter what the occasion or circumstances. I'd give her a 2 on a scale of 1-10 - not a 1 because she's helped a couple times when my family REALLY needed it.

1. Seeing if the day crowd has any stories
I think of myself in the more generous side of the middle - I'm not afraid to spend, but I do like to check on my money first.

30 cent tip?!?! Geez.

But, on a personal level, I would say that my parents are pretty cheap.

5. My FIL was, without question.
Refused to tip in restaurants. Would give the sky cap who pushed his fat arse around in the wheelchair for 45 minutes $2.

Once my eldest asked me if she could have some money to go out to eat with her friends. He reached for his wallet and said "How much". I replied "Well, she probably need $10". In the blink of an eye, he slammed his wallet shut and shoved it back in his pocket and said "too much".

Never mind that he gave his daughter everything he had of value and zilch to his son. We just got the bill for the funeral.

6. Well it depends..

I would say myself. When it comes to tipping/gifts I am not cheap. For example, I took my mom out to a nice dinner last night. The bill was around 30$ and I left a 15$ tip. The service was fantastic. But, I don't go out very often. I easily get by on 600$ per month. Another example: I would rather ride my bike the ten miles to get downtown before I would pay the 2.50 for a day pass on the bus. My Mac n' Cheese must be Kraft, on that I refuse to compromise.

edit: cleaned up a typo..
edit2: fixed another fucking typo..

9. That had to have been my late Aunt Louise.
Edited on Thu Feb-08-07 04:59 PM by NewWaveChick1981
:yoiks: She and her husband were millionaires, and for Christmas, she gave all of us recycled gifts. That wouldn't have been too bad had they not been stored in mothballs for many years and been damaged in some way. I got a game of checkers with two pieces missing one year, and my brother got a book with several pages missing. My sister once got a set of glasses, and every one of them had a chip or a crack. And everything had that mothball stench... :P Cheap Aunt Louise didn't want to spend any money on anyone except herself. :P

11. Yeah, for Christmas, I don't expect expensive gifts
I just think it's the thought that counts. And your aunt didn't even put any thought into it.

14. me
I have worn the same pair of eyeglasses since 1989. I have worn this pair of six-week disposable contacts for six months. When the zipper broke on my 2 year old $8.00 pocketbook from K-mart last year, I sewed the edges shut so there is just a small hole that is always open. The only thing that I spend money on really is shoes, I like to have good shoes, but even then I buy them on sale (the last pair of Nike's I bought were so ugly even the cashier remarked on it, lol) and wear them til they fall apart.

15. My friend Fitz...
is so cheap he bought a bug-infested mattress at one point in college because the previous owner, who was planning on throwing it away, only wanted $15 for it. After 10 cans of RAID, a fumigation bomb, and three weeks inside a plastic bag he slept on it for the rest of college.

16. I worked at a small machine shop were
when it was the bosses turn to buy beer after work he'd buy a case of warm beer so he could save 35-45 cents. Everybody else would buy cold beer. When he would reach for a cold beer I'd take it out of his hand and go stick it the micrwave to warm it up. He started buy cold after that.
