2. Mixed feelings....
Sometimes I laugh, sometimes I wince.

I like Sarah Silverman more when it comes to outrageous humor.

5. Love her
She is like Don Rickles crossed with Lenny Bruce, just way more fucked up.

7. I loved her on the roasts
but I saw her special the other night, and while she's got great material, I think she over-sells it. The super-New Yorker accent and attitude struck me as forced.

9. I think she's hilarious!
At first glance, she appears to be telling racist/sexist/homophobic jokes, but the whole point is to make fun of prejudice. When she tells the jokes, she targets people in the audience of certain groups, and the "victims" laugh and seem to be in on the joke. I think the reason she pulls this off is because people can see through the act, see what she's doing, and can tell that deep down she is not a prejudiced person.

11. If the jokes were better, I'd appreciate that.
Don Rickles was better, frankly. I watched a few minutes of Dirty Girl, and got a few smiles, but was mostly bored.

I do get her embrace-your-ethnicity/orientation-with-all-its-stereotypes thing. Not a bad idea.

10. I saw Rickles Live at a night club here in Cleveland back in
1975...

We were the youngest and the highest there...

We laughed our asses off...

She is okay but nothing like Rickles...

Who knew?

On edit: I've laughed at the bits I've heard from her on XM--pretty hard actually. I don't know if she can keep that up for 30-45 mintes though. It seems that it has to be pretty fast paced to work as well as it does.

She plays in stereotypes, but in the process shows how absurd they are.

I'll bet she has some mixed feelings herself about some of her "fans." Kind of like Dave Chappelle did with some of his "fans." The ones who don't understand that the language game she's playing on stage is an absurd one. That would be the hard part about doing that kind of comedy. I think she mentions this in her Comedy Central standup about some racist fans she kicked out of one of her shows.

17. Not really a fan.
I watched a little bit of "Dirty Girl" on Comedy Central the other night. It was okay. I chuckled a couple times. Laughed once or twice, and I went "HUH?" an awful lot.
She didn't offend me, I just didn't think her bits were that clever or funny.

19. I thought her previous special made me laugh more.
The good thing is, she is an equal-opportunity insulter (is that a word?)

So some of her stuff makes me laugh, (her roast appearances are pretty humorous) but her brand of comedy isn't my favorite.

20. I saw the first special on Comedy Central.
I got a few good belly laughs at first, then she became less funny as the shock value wore off. But I still think she's funnier than 90% of the comedians out there.

For women comediennes Maria Bamford has me rolling on the floor breaking a rib from laughing. One talented lady.

23. I thought I'd hate her --
but I really found myself laughing at both her specials. That kind of humor is incredibly hard to pull off (hello, Carlos Mencia!) but I thought she did a great job at it.

I look forward to seeing her again.
