Watching "The Sopranos" for the first time!!!!

I am a fan of this sort of stuff and everyone told me I should check this show out. I finally got it from Netflix and was pretty excited to see it. I am almost thru the first episode and I have to ask...


Does this shit get good? It pretty much sucks so far. The acting is bad, the storyline is cliche and it is about as exciting as watching a slug melt from pouring salt on it.

Do I have to keep watching a few more episodes or what? Does the story get good or is it hours of shitgrade monstrosities of trying to be the Godfather meets Goodfellows with a mix of Archie Bunker and a tad bit of Scooby Doo? Does it ever get good?

I think the first episode is great. I think it gets better (the first was shot on a pretty tight budget), but I think it's great from the start.

To each his own, I suppose, though :)

They move past the cliches somewhere midway thru the first season. It's one of the greatest tv dramas ever made IMO.

It does start out a bit slow, but it will pick up. You have to remember they are still introducing characters. Hang in there. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

My brother swears it's the best! He knows better than to lie to his big sister :)
I'm hoping it gets more interesting as we progress through it. We've watched #1 so far. Pretty mundane, but I suppose once they intro all the characters they will move a bit more into a story line. I hope, for my brother's sake hehe

12. I think if you don't like the very first show, you're unlikely to like the series.

Which I thought was great, BTW.

But I thought the strong points of the show are evident from the very first episodes, and they represent the series well, so if you watch the first show and don't like it, it's probably not going to be your cup of tea.

It's one of the best series ever with great acting and dialogue. But then again I thought the first episode was terrific. These people all have acting awards so I can't tell you anything if you think the acting is not good.

It's a show about the mafia!! Of course it's going to have shades of "The Godfather" and "Goodfellows" once in awhile.

Give it a chance...I don't think you can learn all about a show from being "almost thru the first episode."
