Any DUers who meditate?
If so, how often? When? What is the setting, usually? Do you use soft music? Why did you start?

Just curious about other meditative practices.

1. I remember meditating every Wed during my college years...
at the school's Neumann center (Catholic Student Center). We used beach sounds...very peaceful.

2. The same time, every day is best
I think with transcendental meditation, it's twice a day.

If you want to meditate twice, or even three times a day, go ahead. But if you are going to start meditating, make sure you have at least 20 min-1/2 hr every day for it. It is a discipline that has to be learned.

I found a few CD's that work for me, mostly because I either like the visualizations, the voice (that isn't too rushed) and/or the music.

I can meditate without, but it's not my preference.

Also, breathe from the diaphragm...your stomach should be moving up and down, not your chest. Eventually you'll get to a point where you only have to talk one or a couple of breaths a minute.

Good luck. :hi:

6. Hey u4ic!

How are you holding up in the blizzard here? Boy it was ugly today...

7. Hi enigmatic!
Wow, that was a doozy, wasn't it? :scared:

I'm fine, and I'm not going out unless I need to. My place is very toasty (it actually has a furnace, rather then a radiator), so there's no heating concerns at all.

How about you? How are you holding up in the weather?

3. Every night
30 minutes, most nights, but I've been slacking lately because I'm working on some music.

I usually have the lights off but the window shades open to let in the light from outside; nothing too spectacular in the way of ceremony or anything...

5. I do
I try to meditate everyday. I meditate in my living room in front of my fireplace, which is a nice setting. No music, just quiet. :)

I got interested in meditation through my yoga practice about ten years ago, but I seriously started meditating about three years ago or so. The cats love it. They always come and sit next to me when I sit on my cushion. :D

8. Yes. Every night at around 11:29 I have a moment of Zen.
No, but seriously, I do so periodically when I sense I need too for about 15 minutes in a quiet place...

I started because I was reading so much Beatnik and Buddhist literature that it seemed silly not too give it a good honest go. I've also taken yoga classes which include a meditative component through my college.
