Christmas in Dixie . . .
Edited on Sat Dec-23-06 11:34 PM by Penndems
From the album "Alabama: Christmas" by Alabama

Written by Teddy Gentry, Randy Owen, Jeff Cook, and Mark Herndon

By now in New York City, there's snow on the ground
And out in California, the sunshine's falling down
And, maybe down in Memphis, Graceland's all in lights
And in Atlanta, Georgia, there's peace on earth tonight

Chorus:
Christmas in Dixie, it's snowin' in the pines
Merry Christmas from Dixie, to everyone tonight

It's windy in Chicago. The kids are out of school
There's magic in Motown. The city's on the move
In Jackson, Mississippi, to Charlotte, Caroline
And all across the nation, it's the peaceful Christmas time

Chorus

And from Fort Payne, Alabama
God bless y'all...We love ya...Happy New Year...Good night
Merry Christmas...Merry Christmas tonight

1. Ah Classic Country carols.
I love Alabama's rendition of Angels Among Us.

2. Me, too - and Vince Gill's version of "Let There Be Peace On Earth"
Maybe I'll post that tomorrow night.

3. I'm listening to Trans Syberian Orchestra...
Silent Night. It's haunting and soothing. It's my favorite. I recommend it highly.

They're gonna be at the MCI Center in D.C. after Christmas.

5. Ain't no snow in the pines in Dixie tonight-trust me
I'm home here in northwest Alabama.

But we love that song, nay the entire CD.
Randy and the boys done us proud!

6. No snow here in Virginia either, LOL
When this song first came out, I bought the album and played it to death.
Then I bought the CD. Alabama is my favorite country group.

After I got married, and my husband was transferred to Pennsylvania, we put the CD on our first Christmas together.

It sounds corny, but I cried. Hearing "Christmas in Dixie" made me homesick. :(

8. We actually had our A/C on for a little while here in NW FL. It's crazy weather, isn't it?

9. Absolutely unbelievable
Almost 70 degrees here today. Geez, I can remember when it snowed in Northern Virginia in October.

We've been turning off the heat and just running the fan to bring in air from outside.

10. I can't help but wonder, what's next? I realize we've had weather like this before but it seems to
be getting more frequent. I haven't worn a coat in four years. That is just not normal.

11. Global warming
That's the only explanation I can come up with.

It's so strange to see people wearing shorts on December 23rd.

12. Yep. That's what my husband and I've been saying for weeks. I think our relatives are already sick
of hearing it. You're right about the shorts. We've been seeing them everywhere and it just feels strange.

13. For the weather to be this warm in Virginia is a fairly recent phenomenon
Edited on Sun Dec-24-06 12:35 AM by Penndems
Up until about ten or fifteen years ago, we'd get measurable snow and/or ice starting in early December. The temperature would be in the low 40s. Now, we're experiencing temps in the high 60s-low-70s.

Very abnormal.
