Ten more days of smoky restaurants!!!!
At the first of the year, Louisiana's new smoke-free law goes into effect. No more smoking in restaurants!

In some restaurants there's no way to separate the bar from the dining area. Not sure how they'll deal with that.

We're delighted about it. Smokers know they're bugging people, and they just don't care. Once we were seated near a large group, and all of them were smoking. The waitress told us that many people were complaining about it, but there was nothing she could do. It was terrible, but those days are nearly gone... ye ha!

3. The restaraunt in my little town has decided to go smoke free Jan 1...
it's just a little small town cafe but I'm really glad they are doing this. Their "non-smoking" section consisted of four booths adjacent to the 25 smoking booths. There is usually a blue haze when you walk in. We didn't normally eat there, but occasionally have ordered food to go..and sometimes you can actually taste the cigarette smoke in the food.

13. Matcom, 98.5% of the smokers I have met are the most courteous people
it's that fricking 1.5% who don't give a fuck that makes it bad for the rest of the smokers

18. How are they making it bad for you
You're saying you don't smoke in restaurants. So how is it hard on you that there's now a ban on what you already weren't doing? In effect, this ban would have no impact on you whatsoever.

I'll have to take your word on the numbers. But those 1.5% are sure obnoxious. You sure it's not 2%?

16. Sorry
Was I wrong to assume they know it bugs people? Okay, maybe nobody told them.

I'm not assuming that they go right ahead and smoke. The evidence is in my face.

19. Unless they knowingly blow it in your face
chances are they're either ignorant or just don't think about it. I've never known a smoker who'd do that, though — at least, not since I was a teenager. If they truly know and don't care, they're just assholes, period — with or without a cigarette, probably.

OTOH, maybe I jumped to a conclusion, too, since in California we've had these laws for years, so we're inured to the separation and the mandated courtesy. It wouldn't occur to me to not distance myself from non-smokers when I've got one lit, or in some circumstances to not smoke at all (hell, I don't smoke in my own freaking house when I have non-smoking company), and virtually all smokers I know are pretty much the same. You drive by a bar here and see people smoking outside — and not right by the entrance, either — and you don't even blink anymore. It's just the way it is.

But it's not that way in other places, so I can understand some bad feelings about it.

8. Agreed!
I confess to hating the idea that the government can tell a business owner whether his establishment allows smoking or not. But once I get past that I'm giddy like a schoolgirl!

17. It's just a theory that smoking is bad for you right?
I'll keep puffing until someone proves to me that it will have a negative impact on my life
