What do you do if you have a really sexy voice?
I did tech support and it carried me through.

But I have this hopelessly sexy, soft, comforting voice. And I don't know what to do about it.

6. Get Used To It
I have been told - over and over and over again - that my normal speaking voice is terribly seductive. It's annoying as hell to realize that at times what I'm saying isn't being heard over my damn voice.

16. Problem being
I wouldn't want to sit in some studio all night. zzzzzzz .. I can do phone calls. Have been enlisted to be the recorded voice that poor customers have to listen to. Not the one that says, punch numero uno. I'm ashamed to admit this, but when Sprint was developing voice recognition software, I was working there. Temp gig. I loaned them my voice. Seemed like a good idea at the time. Got me out of real work for 2-3 hours. But now. Everytime I encounter VRS, it makes me cringe to remember. So you never know.

I happen to have a gig now where I make phone calls. Haven't really launched out yet.
I did a charity event, calling people for information. I was warned that they might not want to divulge. But I'm so polite and soft, had no problems.

Thank you for this. I have been holding off getting on the phones, which is where I'm going to make money. A boost of confidence. :D

23. Oh let me tell you.
I play an online game where we often use a teamspeak program to hear each other to fight together and complete a task. There are some guys on there....oh my gawd...with the sexiest voices. One with really deep bass voice with a slight southern (NC) accent. I try to get him to read me poetry or the back of cereal boxes, I don't care. hehehe. And another dude with the most laid-back, soft, mellow voice. ahhhhhh.

They also say I have a sexy voice, but then again they are guys playing a game where "real" women (not males playing female characters) are in short supply. LOL! I think I sound quite nasally on my answering machine.

78. Maybe you'll like the rest of it
One minute the bad side of midnight! It's me, Captain Gonzo, ready to roll hot wax, anything you want to hear all night! It's a balmy 73 degrees in Fog City, 71 in the valley, 80 in Santa Cruz, but remember if you snooze you lose! I'm gonna hang with you, I'll crank it on, so let me know what you want to hear! My hit lines are all open — you say it, you KNOW I'm gonna play it, and be ready to win when I tell you to call in! And whatever you do, remember the phrase that pays, put your brain on vacation and let your toes take over, keep your pedal to the metal! I'll be back in 60 seconds! In the meantime go WITH it, go FOR it, go NUTS, go COMPLETELY WILD!

40. Voice-over work. I'm VERY serious...
I know a handful of people (ordinary people) whose voices have landed them amazingly lucrative gigs in voice-overs for TV, films, radio, etc... I'm talking about a hundred thousand dollars per year for a few weeks' work. Sound good? Hey, at least check it out. There are voice agents (yes, agents who represent voices!) in L.A. and NYC who would LOVE to help, if your voice is what you say it is. There's a reason why top Hollywood stars, including Oscar winners and the very, very rich, like to make extra coin by voicing car ads, etc.-- it's essentially FREE MONEY. They're not hired for these gigs because of who they are (they're not identified in the commercials); they're hired because of their voice-- and because they have smart agents.

42. How do I find an agent?
I'm VERY serious too. One thing I do in my spare time, as a 'hobby' so far, is give speeches. I think they give me all those ribbons because they just like hearing me.

Where are the agents? I'll audition.

43. Where do you live?
I've lived most of my life in L.A. and New York, so I sometimes forget the fact that not everyone has an instant tie-in (at least via a "friend-who-has-a-friend")to that kind of situation. Hmm. I would certainly do some on-line rearch, if I were you. See where it leads you. Let me know if you have further questions. I can't offer specific help, but maybe some advice.

Good luck.

44. Thank you ..
I live in central Texas, as my profile reveals. From north central TX. They have studios there.
I will do a search. If they are looking for me, I'll find them ;) ..

Can't voice overs be done from anywhere? I love living here and would hope to not relocate.

52. I agree
I'm in advertising and I know for a fact that good voice-over talent can make huge money. I'm talking $200,000 and up.

66. I really have to check into this ..
I think the no-compete agreement has expired, so I can say .. I knew two radio personalities in the DFW area. One was the guy who gave the traffic reports from the helicopter. The other worked for the mainstream classical station. They both made a comfortable lifestyle with just their voices.

Oh wow.

69. I've been told the same thing
And like an idiot, I've never acted on it. I really should, considering I'm underemployed right now.

49. I have a very low voice which is either sexy or sounds like
your father; whatever turns you on. But when I was working in accounting, I used to have to regularly deal with a certain Staples account manager. She had the sexiest, breathiest, most intimate voice I've ever heard. There were men in the office who asked to be alerted when I made the call, so I could put her on speakerphone. As it happens, she was also dumb as a stick but nobody seemed bothered by it.

51. No; but my own father doesn't have a very deep voice
and when I was a teenager growing up at home, when I answered the telephone I'd often hear, "Dr. Crim Son?" Low voices run in the family, though we don't smoke. You should hear my 97 year old grandmother sing!

55. I've been told "Mariett Hartley"
who is an older actress with a deep voice. Inside my head I sound like Winnie the Pooh.

62. People used to tell me
Edited on Mon Dec-18-06 10:08 PM by votesomemore
I looked like Muriel Hemingway. Wide eyes. Think of a deer in the headlights. I guess.

I have chanced upon some voice training through the years. Just how to make emphasis and inflection. Projection. Simple stuff like that. Voice really is a special thing, isn't it.

This thread has been great!

We should all find our voices!

I have a sore throat though. And an earache. I'm going to get an agent! I guess? I have a really nice giggle too. Eveyone loves to hear me laugh? What is up with this stuff?

oh, and I can make people crack up by just making a facial expression. Surely! There is a way to make money with this.

Like be the monkey in the cage?

77. Jim Carrey has been doing the thing with his face
for years :)

You have a sore throat and an earache? I hope they get better soon. There's a bad head cold going around where I live, but I think it's finished with my family. Take care.

Thanks. People around here tell me "allergy capital of the world". What gets better than that?

71. I think
Edited on Mon Dec-18-06 10:24 PM by votesomemore
people are a little startled by my voice. I'm a little old hippie chick. Take 'old' with a grain of salt, because there is nothing old about me. It just seems there is an assumption that I am a hot mamma. Well I am. But that's beside the point.

I guess I'm thinking (now) along the lines of EG Wells. Not that I want anyone jumping off a building. Or Rod Sterling. "Let me tell you a story." And that is what has gotten me in trouble recently. I'm doing make believe.

It used to work great with my kid. Bedtime story. You walk out on a white beach. The sun kisses you and makes you warm. The sand is so soft You roll over and touch someone else.

Yah. 900 might be the way to go.

edit to say: I did not envision touching with my son. It was just a lullaby. And since singing is not something I do well, I told a story.

65. I Don't Know What To Do With My Sexy Voice
it helps in talking to women who are angry with my staff, or other issues at work pretty well.

Is there something else I should do with it?
