The thoroughbred horse association does not allow artificial insemination. He will have to be able to do it the old fashioned way if he is to continue his lineage.

Some comedian discussed this on his show last week... can't for the life of me remember who! The choices for retired race horses are: either you'll be shot because your leg won't work... or you'll be fucking your head off in a pasture somewhere with willing females.

...to keep that magnificent racehorse alive, however, it's a sad fact that not all hugely successful racehorses are hugely successful sires. The owners might not make back the money they expended to save him. But, if I remember correctly, they were more concerned about saving Barbaro than making their money back, and they have plenty of money to piss away. (Not that I consider saving Barbaro's life pissing money away.)
