In your opinion, most horrendous "traditional" Christmas tune?
IMO, "Away In A Manger."

Especially the second verse, the lyrics are simply idiotic.

The cattle are lowing
The poor Baby wakes
But little Lord Jesus
No crying He makes

I love Thee, Lord Jesus
Look down from the sky
And stay by my side,
'Til morning is nigh.

2. Want me to post the lyrics?

The music is fine.
The lyrics are maddening.

14. I know the lyrics are corny, but
I still get weepy when I hear the last line.
"Then he smiled at me." (I really need to get back on my Zoloft!)

3. Yep. Doesn't get more absurd than "the ox and lamb kept time"

Why not just throw in a yak playing the triangle while you're at it? Sheesh.

4. Sure, it does: the fact that they made an entire cartoon out of the song.

5. Eeeeeeew, yes.
:puke:

Only version I can stand is, ironically, the "Little Drummer Boy/Peace on Earth" medley. :D

6. I hate "Away in a Manger," too, either tune
and I don't like "Silent Night," either.

7. You, too? I HATE "Silent Night"! The tune is trite,
the words are OK only in German, and I especially don't like the traditional Christmas Eve thing where the congregation lights candles with little paper collars and gets wax all over everything while singing "Silent Night" really, really sloooowly. It gets slower and slower and flatter and flatter (if a capella) and everybody just stands there, singing lugubriously and dripping wax.

OK, you can all flame me now. But I just don't like "Silent Night." I also don't like "O Little Town of Bethlehem" much, either, unless sung to Vaughan Williams' tune "Forest Green."

9. All of them
If their sung by a modern musician they just don't sound right, can't stand when some sings something like white christmas!
Will say when a musician sings a original tune it's alright Example Mariah Carey or Alan Jackson.

11. Almost all of the "modern" Christmas classics, like Jingle Bells
are horrendous, to me. I adore songs like O Holy Night, Carol of the Bells, O Come All Ye Faithful, Angels We Have Heard On High, etc.--and I want to hear them sung by choirs, not cheesy celebrities.

12. We Three Kings
Talk about contrived rhyme schemes and crappy melody!

Didn't you use to think it was "We 3 kings of ori and tar"?
