A Universal and Theological Question
This might seem like an unusual question but here goes; Is there any accepted theory that the Universe is infinity large, or not, and if so what is the basis for the theory. And then on the other side of the coin is there any theological rejection or support of any arguement for or against an infinite Universe?

In other words is there agreement between the worlds of science and theology on the size of the Universe. I think I can see a theological argument against it - that the creation should not be able to dwarf the creator - but I don't know if there is a formal argument.

Whatcha think?

1. If both are infinitely large then one can not be said to dwarf the other.

2. A true theologian would believe that if God is all mighty and powerful...

...then the universe He created would be infinite and all-encompassing. One could not be legitimate and give creedence to God's almighty powers, while at the same time, advocate the theory of a limited universe.

At least that's how I see it as a Muslim.

3. Maybe I'm a wierdo
...but I've never seen the need to have science and faith in complete agreement. I think Carl Jung told me I could do that...

So, to me, it doesn't matter to my faith what science says about whether the universe is infinite, or not.

I believe that, among Christians as a whole, I'm very much in the minority. But, hey, it keeps me from swallowing crap like "Creation Science".

4. God has no size
When you dream, how big is your dream world? Is it bigger than your mind? Can it dwarf your mind?

5. It's fun, but, any arguments here seem academic.
There may be some sects that would argue a limitation to the Universe. But, nothing pervasive in Christianity that I have seen.

There is no reason to say that a creation of the creator cannot be larger than the creator, at least that I can see.

There can be more than one infinite, some not neccessarily larger than the other, but, possibly different from each other. NOTE: 1/0 is infinent. What of -1/0, what of 2/0, what of 0/0? Can they all represent exactly the same infinite? Could the infinance of God be different from the infinance of the Universe, and different from the infinice of mathematics.

The Bible's infinence is often taken as meaning from the beginning of time till the end of time. Could it possibly refer to the infinence that exists in every second of time.

It's fun, but, any arguments here seem academic.

Spell checker ignores me.
