Biopsy = Negative! Woo-Hoo!
Edited on Tue Dec-23-03 04:10 PM by rbnyc
The GREAT news is that my biopsy was negative. Because of all the damage done to my esophagus over the years, I'm at high risk for cancer and was worried about this test. I'm very, very relieved.

To reduce my risk of developing cancer in the future, my doctor recommends a surgery to repair the valve between my stomach and esophagus, and to put the piece of my stomach that's popping through back where it belongs. First, the ulcer has to heal. Also, he feels he doesn't have all the pieces of the puzzle. He found all kinds of abnormalities that I can't pronounce or spell and wants to do some more tests and try to put it all together. I'm on medication now and will probably have my surgery within the next 6 months.

So overall, this is really great news. We're going to get to the bottom of all my digestive ailments and take care of them. If I had continued to just let it go, I may have ended up in very bad shape.

Thanks for your positive thoughts, karmic focus, vibes, energy and prayers, and thanks for listening while I vent my fears and frustrations about all the stuff going on with me.

:loveya:

11. He's great.
I've lucked out with doctors. After changing doctors over and over again I finally found a great team. They say that if you don't smile when you think about your doctor, you should find a new doctor.

I'm very, very lucky that I have good insurance.

13. Thanks so much, everyone!
Thanks for caring about all this, and for giving me a place to talk freely about my feelings. My husband, family, and friends are great...but there's something about being able to write it all out that really helps. And there's something very special about the friendships we have here at DU.

Congrats. I too have a hiatal hernia and inflamed esophagus from acid reflux. Thankfully had lots of tests a year ago before I ran out of insurance and am clean. As the two-bit evangelist said,

40. That reflux is a bitch!
Have you ever had it come up so strong that it came out of your nose? That's the worst! I hope that if we fix this valve that will never happen again.

Best of luck to you too. Glad you're doing ok now.

49. I hardly ever turn on my cell phone
I'm sure I pushed the button because you were getting the results today. Rode about eight miles before a thankfully long (this time anyway) red light let me retrieve your message.

WooHoo indeed! Since there is a family history of cancer, my breathing has been erratic for a few days. Glad you passed the test! (You're always good at tests, though. It runs in the family, too.)

Whatever has to happen has to happen. (I'm thankful you still have faith in the medical profession.) I worry about your singing voice with these goings-on. Well, if you end up sounding like Stevie Nicks, I can do the Christine McVee counterpart - or at least introduce you at MSG when you play there. If you wind up sounding like Bonnie Bramlett (whose songs I used to sing to strip polyps from my throat), maybe we could do a Simon and Garfunkle harmony - or you could just keep singing like you're singing.

I love you and your entire digestive tract. (How many people can say they love your intestines?)

:loveya:
