So I saw The Dead/Bob Dylan/Robert Hunter last night
Wow. Had 6th row not on the floor, but on the first level, Stage Left. I had a PERFECT view of nearly every (except Phil sometimes.)

Dylan's set was amazing- have never seen him live. Had heard mixed reviews of him in the past, but he was great last night.

Robert Hunter, by himself with just a Jazz Guitar, very mellow, but did some great classic tunes.

The Dead- WOW. Opened with Shakedown Street and I knew we were in for a fantastic show. Pretty sure they did Franklin's Tower (I looked for a setlist so I could find out for sure, but could not find one yet.)
"Playin in the Band."

ESTIMATED PROPHET!!!!! WOW. Couldn't have asked for a better tune to hear.

And the closer was "Turn On Your Lovelight," was incredible and Joan Osbourne sounded great- soulful and interacting with the crowd. She was boogying on stage on her own and with Bobby sometimes. I think she fits right in.

Wish I could remember the rest of the setlist- those are my highlights. Mind is hazy. What an incredible night!

5. I can imagine
that people who have been seeing the Dead for a long time (don't know how old you are or how long you've been seeing them for,) to adapt to the change. But remember, she's still adapting, too. She fills some of the vocal void left by Jerry. It's not the same, but it's not meant to be the same, ya know?

I only saw 'em once- Summer 1995.

Maybe it's easier for me and the younger people to accept. I don't know. All I know is that I had an amazing time and I danced my ass off!!!

2. Lucky you!
I'm pleased to hear that!

When I saw Dylan on Saturday, he only played a single one-hour set, with one encore. His voice sounded horrible too!

I glad that he recovered and went on to perform an "amazing" set.

And you got to hear Estimated Prophet - I wish I was at that show!

6. I thought his voice sounded great
You still couldn't understand what he was saying half the time, but I think that's just Dylan. He wasn't too raspy at all.

4. NICE!!!
Where did they play last night?

Dylan can be hit or miss, just like the band when Jerry was still with us.

How many songs did Joan sing lead on? I caught them in Mansfield Mass a month or so ago and she sang China Doll and shared the lead on King Bee, but I think that was all except for harmonies. I think she is great, but of course my favorite shows were the ones when Keith & Donna were in the band...

8. Sunrise, FL
Fort Lauderdale area.

I'm not sure, exactly, how much she sang with them. I'm guessing about 1/2 to 2/3 of the time?

She fit in much better than Donna did, sorry I know some people liked her, but any show I've ever heard with her has not been that great.

Her voice was too high and lilting and never seemed to fit in quite right, whereas Joan Osbourne's is more soulful and deeper. JMO.

11. Cool!
I saw the (un)Dead with Robert Hunter at MCI...last year? Wasn't too impressed with Hunter's vocals, but an excellent show none the less. I'd love to see Dylan.

My girlfriend is leaving for IT tomorrow up in northern Maine. Wish I could go, but there's just something that makes me feel bad about partying that hard while umemployed.
