The greatest week in rock history
Thirty-four years ago, the Beatles, Stones, Zeppelin, Temptations, Crosby Stills and Nash, and Creedence Clearwater all shared top billing on the Billboard album chart. There's never been another lineup quite like it -- and there will never be again.

3. Contrast this with the entire year of 1990
When NO rock albums or singles hit the number one spot; it was all dance pop and hip hop. Hmmmm...sounds just like 2003!

That white album isn't from 1969, is it?

11. Earlier than that, I think. "Abraxas" was the Santana album that year...
I think. I could be wrong...I'm going by my memories of my dad's record collection.

8. Guitar wanking....give me a break....puh-leeze
Most of the indie crap is all guitar wanking while some idiot warbles incoherent lyrics..... :eyes:

"Did you read that the Beatles were more popular than Christ..."
- Unknown reporter
"You know we always enjoyed performing, it was sort of our buzz, and then I
always, I always felt that Beatles sort of did it, you know, when they were
big, they did it..."
- Mick Jagger
"...been proved by what's going on in the States, and the protest marches in
Grosvenor square in London. The only result of that was, a lot of smashed
heads..."
- John Lennon

Look at him shouting out
Loud as thunder out at sea
He wants a bomb
So do we

A bomb from the sky
Is the perfect crime
Shoulder on shoulder and heat

The Beatles and the Stones
Sucked the marrow out of bone
Put the V in Vietnam
The Beatles and the Stones
Made it good to be alone
To be alone

Look at me, proud of being
Proud of being seventeen
Locking in the pocket a smile
Soft from the school
Cut by the rule
Oh I'm dazed and I'm dazed and I'm dazed

The Beatles and the Stones
Sucked the marrow out of bone
Put the V in Vietnam
The Beatles and the Stones
Made it good to be alone
To be alone

The Beatles and the Stones
Sucked the marrow out of bone
Put the V in Vietnam
The Beatles and the Stones
Made it good to be alone
To be alone
To be alone
To be alone
(Alone, alone, alone, alone, alone)
To be alone...

14. House of Love...typical introverted downcast major label attempt
at courting the "college" crowd of the late 80's, who of course, were reactionarily dismissing anything that rocked because their parents liked that stuff. "C'mon guys, keep looking at your shoes and the liberal arts grads will continue to buy your stuff! C'mon! Look more depressed!"

10. Hmmm.."guitar wanking...incoherent lyrics"... Shit, sounds good to me!
I'd much rather hear guitar wanking than sampler wanking.

13. I remember that well.
I got both the Abby Road and Crosby Stills and Nash albums for Christmas that year. My brother got "Let it Bleed". I was 12 and my brother was 14 and we were so into music.

My 22 year old brother gave me Crosby Stills and Nash who were new to me. I immediately became crazy for them and also saved my allowance for their next album, DeVu with Neil Young.

Music was so good back then! Not to mention that the Band came out that year too and Creedence did some of their finest work.

17. Yeah, 1969 was probably the best ever year for rock.
The Who, The Band, The Stones, The Beatles, Zappa put out FOUR albums that year (all of them brilliant), Captain Beefheart's "Trout MAsk Replica," Black Sabbath was just forming, all sorts of great obscure stuff just beubbling under the surface, like Josefus....Elvis's "Kentucky Rain," Jesus, I could go on and on....

16. Didn't used to like Creedence, now I do
When all the hippies were getting smelly in the mud with all their peace and love, Fogerty was singing "Bad Moon Rising" and "Fortunate Son".

18. Creedence were the working-class soul of rock during those years...
Always loved 'em. Best singles band ever, plus they were influential to two of my favorite bands, AC/DC and The Minutemen.

19. Wow!
I can't believe the deluge of incredible music that was released in such a short peiod back then. Really a pity that's there's nothing even remotely comparable today.
