We have a "mix" CD for our daughter (really, just two songs in rotation), and that's one of them...

the soundtrack is fricken awesome (as an aside), the coen bros blew their wad on this one, the very best, ever.
It is so rich in so many ways.
my other faves: I'll Fly Away - Gillian Welch & Alison Krauss Listen Listen Didn't Leave Nobody But The Baby - Gillian Welch, Alison Krauss & Emmylou Harris
damn, the whole album is gold.

| 15. how it enriched me... |
|
- George Clooney was just a perty face before this movie to me (altho, I really twigged onto him when he was Roseanne's sister's boyfriend, back in the day, i knew there was something special about him-cute as hell)
- sometimes the old ways are the good ways. muscially, I was moved, astounded at the talent, heart, sound, etc.
- Penny was a bitch! oh, get my ring, thing. But the story was told by angry men.
- Baby Face Nelson was a hypersensitive
but above it all, I had a glimpse into another time frame, culture. And they come off good in the end, regardless of all the general jokes and pokes to that part of the US (rednecks, hillbillies, etc.),... these people, I like.

I'm not about American roots music *all* the time, but I find that I need it as often as not.

On the Seeger Sessions Tour. They played it on the speakers as folks walked en masse up the lawn at SPAC and it looked like a revival.

| 18. that bruce, he's bona fide. |
|
accidentally caught him on the roy orbison black and white thing on pbs.
sleepy, on the couch, didn't know what time frame it was, didn't know when itwas.
hey, that's bruce! hey, kd lang, hey tom waitts...
bruce was soooo 'present' - his joy at being there and movements were art on their own. this guy is so totally comfortable in his skin, you don't see that visually too many times.

we had it on the O Brother, Where Art Thou, soundtrack. My baby would scream in the car unless that CD is on. My 6 yr old knows the words. I played that song alot when my mom was sick. thank you for posting about it.
