Food Review: Duke Hospital
Salad: Wonderful mixture of fresh greens and a sort of "help yourself" attitude. The salad bar at Duke Hospital is a savory variety of ecumenical tastes: vegetarians, carnivores and omnivores can be appeased with the utmost satisfaction.

Soup: The soup there makes you get well.

Hot Bars: The aroma of the hot bars inspires such an appetite in the patron, one carries it passionately in one's memory. I personally tried the lasagna. After 3 days of ice or water (after getting my appendix amputatated) I allowed the richness of this dish to completely overwhelm me. My roommate (still assigned to water and a drip) was not happy when I lifted the lid of my tray. The spices and richness of the food wafted over to her bed. I saw her nostrils widen in curiosity and rage. I think she would have gladly traded places with me.

Sushi Bar: They have a Sushi bar. In a hospital.

I give it a four-star review. I'd recommend it. I'd eat there again. I'd have another appendectomy if such a thing were possible.

1. Wow. Sounds like things have changed in the last 10 years.
When I was there (in Div School), the only thing edible was the salad bar. Sort of.

They let you go to the cafeteria? That's pretty neat.
I hope you're feeling better. :)

3. Thanks! My recent kudos to Duke are based on a recent
visit to a good friend with a slipped disc. She laughed at me, and I insisted that I'd go around the hospital and get her anything. I picked up our lunches from downstairs because she had no dietary restrictions.

The first encounter with hospital food was the appendicitis, and that was last summer, thank god. D'you think they cater? Lol. I feel great these days. How're you, sunshine?

:pals:

8. Ah, I see.
What a great friend you are! But you know, if you didn't go, you never would have seen that sushi bar, would you?

I liked the cafeteria there. Fewer students, and better food choices than on the rest of the campus.

I'm doing well. I suppose I could complain or whine, but I'd rather stay positive. On an upnote, both my cats are getting better. :)

9. That is really good to hear.
I'll tell you, it's the best to find good surprises (great food) in the unlikeliest places. And thank you for the compliment too, about being a good friend. Also, complaining & whining are human nature. You tend to pull it off rather stylishly. I'll tell you right now that you are never boring. :D

Hi to the kitties from me, too.

 Had no idea you had to have an appendectomy. Get well soon! :loveya: I'm glad to hear the food has improved there, too.

5. BABE!! Geeze!
How the hell are you? :bounce:

Yeah- I had to go in for one last year. They were so good to me. The last drug-induced thing I remember about the operation is proclaiming my love for the hosp. staff on the gurney. They must hear that a lot.

:applause: :loveya:  :pals: :yourock: Damn, it is SO good to see you.

 :bounce: I'm in Boston right now but coming back to NC tomorrow. I cannot believe how hot it has been here....100 degrees with 115 heat index today, and about the same yesterday. :nuke:

Welcome home, sweet! Can I tempt you with the YMCA pool some time, or Jordan Lake? It's cooler down here, btw!

4. Your hospital sounds rather better than the one I was just at!
In terms of the vittles layout, most definitely!

Glad they were able to pop your appendix out! But be glad you have but one. Like men, they're useless, potentially toxic, and do nothing but dangle around aimlessly until they get pre-occupied with a nasty condition, and now you can imagine the field day that my pal Siggy Freud would have with that sappy tangent...

May your recuperation be swift and nimble!

11. Oh, Hypno-
I begged these doctors to just take it out, and if I had to I'd pay for "vanity surgery" or whatever people call it. But that was last year. I really would love to hear your reviews on hospital food. I'll bet they'd be interesting.

:D :loveya:

13. Oh, I thought you had just gone in for one!
Nice to know it was then and there's not another they found! :) (Hope you've not needed to go back for any reason since!)

And as for writing reviews in a distinctive and appealing prose, I do not believe anybody can top you. :loveya:

And as ye mentioned it, I'm keen to know - I love knowledge: Is Sushi a delicacy you relish?

20. If I may intercede: Of all the things I'd want done to me in a gutter,
having my innards ripped out for vultures, flies, and dogs to ingest (and take a dump on) while being inebriated is not what I had in mind.

17. O, yeah! When I suggested I MIGHT have appendicitis
they said, "Well, you aren't screaming & writhing around in pain".

I said: "Would you like me to? Could you just take it out regardless?"

I suppose I'll never have to worry about that again. :D

Whether you care or not, bridgit saved my life!! She *you* pointed me in the direction of a good description of appendicitis and that got me driving to the hosp!! I adore you anyway as no person can.

Our song should be: "Everyone" by Van Morrison.
