Update On My Rescued Kitty: (PICS)
I took her to the vet this morning. She is well. Most importantt thing: Feline Leukemia Negative!

The wormy things were gone pretty much last night - now I'm thinking they were round worms - anyway, her tail is fine now. She cleaned herself after she settled in and she is all fluffy and white and brown and black now - a Siamese "rag doll" mix. She has a slight fever and so is on anti-inflammatory, antibiotics, a cleanser for the festering paw pad injury, got a pill for her worms, will get Frontline for the fleas and is just as happy as can be while she isn't sleeping.

I named her Marla.
(Dangerously Amused had too many syllables...)

Here are some pictures. She seemed particularly interested in TIGER Wood's British Open win: (My digital camera isn't working, so they're from cell phone. That's my Mom, not me in the second photo.) Thanks for your help everyone.

She must have known somehow that you were going to love her and not hurt her like some would do. Sometimes I think animals are far more intelligent than people give them credit for.

6. Congrats on the good news...btw, "Ragdolls" are a real breed.

That's a picture of my mom's two Ragdoll cats. The one on the right is Cuddles, he's a real Ragdoll. They're big, dumb, quiet, hypo-allergenic & dog-like. On the left is Peaches, who is the abused, resuce "Ragdoll." She's a flame-point. We think she's really a Ragdoll/Birman mix or something though, because she's much too small, has a different coat texture from a real Ragdoll, and the breeder "lost" the papers to her and the EIGHT litters she had by the time she was five.

10. Cuddles looks right proud of himself for killing that vicious wild stapler

In fact I believe he is sticking his tongue out and taunting it. Peaches, on the other hand, looks a bit concerned that it might spring back to life and need killin' all over again.

23. It's not a stapler, it's a Gerber Multi-Tool...
and with the thumb-opener, I can work that thing like a switchblade.

In actuality, Cuddles is the wimpiest/laziest cat ever. In that pic, he's had a haircut, but normally, he just relies on his thick fur for defense. He'll get jumped by another cat, usually Midnight (one of my cats) and just roll over and take it until the attacker is done. It's quite amusing to watch. He also likes water. One of these days, I really need to get the pictures, from my mom ,of him swimming in the pool.

27. Yeah, here's a good page on Ragdolls...
http://www.ragdoll-cats.com/descrip.htm

Cuddles is a small chubby male at 17lbs. His father was a sleek 25lbs. Peaches weighs in at 9lbs, but she was only 5lbs and nearly starved to death when she came to us. Imagine how emaciated she was then, because she's still skinny at 9lbs. It was disgusting and her owner was trying to charge $800 for unregistered and 99.9% likely not purebred Ragdoll kittens.

33. I loved that book when I was a kid.
My Mom took me to see the movie when it first came out in 1971 or so at a theatre on Fort Belvoir (where the pResident was today). It didn't do very well, but I loved it.

I had forgotten that line. Thanks.

37. She's adorable
and she's one lucky kitty to find someone to take care of her. Mine is a Ragdoll/Himalayan mix adopted in June. So far she's been treated for upper respiratory, eye and ear infections and had tartar removed from her teeth. Now, the doc thinks the skin irritation she came with may be ringworm. If it wasn't for one of the DU'ers recommending Dingo Kitty treats, she'd probably be sick of all the attention. But it's all worth it.

41. Boy, does this ever sound familiar!
"As soon as I picked her up, she was all, like, 'yeah, I picked your car to do and U-turn and stop and put on your blinkers and pick me up, now let's go home!'"

One fine August morning, my wife and I were driving into work early, crossing Richmond's Nickel Bridge, when we both spotted something right in the middle of the bridge.  And when I say right in the middle, I mean that literally!  In almost the exact center of the bridge, huddled between the double yellow lines, was a very small, furry object.  As the object did not move, I thought it was a toy.  I slowed down as I approached the "toy," and as I looked out the driver's window, the "toy" looked up at me!  I said, "It's a kitten, and it's alive."  We did not need to discuss what to do; as soon as we had crossed the bridge, we turned around immediately to retrieve the kitten.

Though our immediate concern was that the kitten was severely injured and suffering, we knew we could not just leave him there regardless.  Stopping in the middle of the bridge, I jumped out and ran to the kitten. To our surprise and joy, he was completely uninjured, save for a scrape on his nose (this is remarkable, considering he was literally inches from cars traveling both ways at 40-50 miles per hour)!  As I was now blocking the entire bridge during morning rush hour, I had to endure many angry car horns and comments; however, I held the kitten aloft for all to see, and several people started cheering!  Within a few hours, he had his first veterinary experience, and was given a clean bill of health.  He was very thin, and a bit roughed up, but we gave him some food and water, and suddenly he was a little purr machine!

We brought him home, named him Charlie, and the rest is history.  It only took a few weeks to integrate him into the household, and he loves to play with his brother and sister cats, Tate and Hannah.  He is now a very healthy, happy cat (and he seems to like beds and sofas much, much more than the asphalt of the Nickel Bridge)!

Charlie - Day One (about six weeks old)

Charlie - Today
