1. Was the writer of that ad preserved in a time capsule since 1984?
Come to think of it, even in 1984 that ad would be inaccurate.

2. I saw one the other day. The hubris is petty. Pity.

Mac OS X is 95% identical to FreeBSD w/GNOME. Sheesh, my own PC's screenshot looks identical to any given "Mac" these days, and I use SuSE Linux 10.1 w/ the GNOME interface.

Yet my machine didn't cost $2500 to build and is more powerful than one costing $2500 these days.

Also, right up to the month Apple ditched Motorola in favor of Intel for the CPU, Apple was praising Motorola as being faster than Intel. Once the switch made, oh Intel became the better processor.

As a computer company, Apple's cred is long gone.

For iTunes, I love 'em. (not iPod, iTunes. Their DRM is reasonable and fair...)

My screenshot.

I obviously added some bits and pieces so it still looks geeky, but the main parallels are still present.

3. i like how they sell mac as the hip semi-stoner who's just all about
being cool and jammin mp3s and kicking it in his "jeans: and "not shaving" so much all the time and just genuinely being "geeky" but not too much, because it's "geek-cool" like its 1998 all over again. that guy will always be the cheerleader from dodgeball to me, but regardless, when will mac tire of depicting itself as the rogue geek hip semi-stoner with a complete disregard for order. when lord when?

6. They make me happier about my PC
Seriously, who would you rather hang out with: The bland hipster or the good-natured dork? I choose dork.
