Poll question: DVDs do you buy more or fewer than before
Edited on Sat Jun-24-06 08:10 AM by ikojo
Prices for DVDs have gone up while the bonus stuff included has decreased. Now if you want the DVD with all the bells and whistles, you must buy the "special edition" which costs more than the regular edition.

I think they got us hooked on these discs, which are easier to schlep around than were VHS tapes and now we are being taken to the cleaners.

I know I buy fewer DVDs. It used to be that every Tuesday a couple co-workers and I would make a DVD Tuesday run so I could buy the releases from that week that interested me. I've not bought a DVD in a couple of months now.

1. I'd rather pay per view and save the cost of 'ownership, except
The TCO is rather more for the bloody premium cable accessibility than it does a DVD player plus DVD sets. :eyes:

Half the stuff I'd want is unobtainable anyway. Arcane, esoteric, and often British... it's not mainstream. Our petulant society only caters to the teeming indolent masses.

2. I look at some of the TV shows that have been
released as box sets and wonder..who was pining for THAT to be released after all it's on in repeats all over the place.

I wish they'd release Dr Who as box sets rather than as individual discs at $25 per show.

4. I rent most of mine
Those I've bought are personal classics that I'll watch over again. Though in the beginning, I'd buy some obscure foreign films that the video shop didn't carry (used from half.com).

Before I buy, I'll go to some DVD discussion sites to see if it's worth it. There are folk who are consumerist eejits. Everytime a new edition is released with perhaps some added extra - security footage of the janitor sweeping the set after everyone has left - folk are groaning about having to double, triple or quadriple dip. Blimey.
