Fun with Freepers, #245643, Watch them Defend Swastikas!
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1039164/posts

I don't see anything wrong with having the swastika glyph in there since it isn't a Nazi creation. What would Microsoft do if I protested the inclusion of a crescent moon in one of their fonts?

1. But it is a shame
A perfectly fine symbol prior to the 1930's when the Nazi's took it over and destroyed it.

4. well isn't that a cute question!
lol, my guess is that if you start a question about freepers with "do they even know that...", it's a safe bet the answer is no.

3.  I kinda agree with the freepers here
Edited on Fri Dec-12-03 12:08 PM by Kamika
What's the point of removing it.. It's not like windows has swastikas and march music when you log on.. but lets say you're doing a anti nazi flyer or something and you need a swastika symbol.

Maybe we should remove every david star, cross, crescent moon, hammer, communist star, gay rainbow etc etc etc etc etc.. see my point here?

The PC line must me drawn here!

10. I agree
If anything should be removed from a font it should be the letter "W"...

6. I don't think...
people should give so much power to a symbol. I agree with the freepers on this one, the swastika in and of itself shouldn't be feared or revered - that's the kind of thinking that put the Nazi's into power in the first place.

At the same time, I wonder how many of those freepers want to ban flag burning?

7. I like this one.
"What if another monster, such as Hitler, uses the sign of the cross or the Star of David? Would then these symbols also be removed?"
Is that not bush and his minions? The cross bit not the star.

8. Here's a quick history of the Swastika

This was an ancient symbol of good luck, prosperity, and long life, used in ancient cultures such as India and China, where it is the central symbol of the FALUN Law Wheel.

To give you an idea of how long the Swastika has been a symbol in China, look at an illustration of comets painted on silk about 2,300 years ago.

This is from Turkey

United States Army 45th Division Insignias (Pre 1940's, of course)

I found all thses pics, and a good history at this link:

11. your graphics are not viewable--all red x's
. . . at least that is what I see
I don't think most graphics allow direct linking from a web site; most of the time they need to link to your own picture-hosting or internet service provider space.

13. Native American Tribes
in the Southwest (New Mexico) used a design that was a red oval with a white circle and a black swastika. It was actually used on a unit patch of a New Mexican National Gaurd unit until 1942, when it was removed.
The tribes agreed at the time to stop using the swastika 'for the duration of the war', but never re-started using it in public.

18. I'm with the freeps on this one as well
It's just a symbol, and by golly, a lot of people around the world still use it.

Not to reduce the strength that symbols can have on us, but let's face it - it's just a symbol.

I read the one guy's post about building the Hindenberg model that had the swastikas taken off. That's simply insae.

19. Regardless of its innocent origins...
The fact is that the swastika is now irrevocably linked with the Nazi Party. It's a shame, but that's the perceptive association that most people make with the symbol.

Freepers get their knickers in such a twist about political correctness, but if you just say one discouraging word about their god Ronald Reagan, they invariable have a collective stroke!
